- "I name the Emperor himself for ordering the brutal attacks on the people of Ghorman. Their peaceful world is one of countless systems helpless under his oppressive rule. This massacre is proof that our self-appointed Emperor is little more than a lying executioner, imposing his tyranny under the pretence of security. We cannot allow this evil to stand."
- ―Mon Mothma, in a message broadcast
the Ghorman system[6] was a star system[5] in the Sern sector[3] situated along the Rimma Trade Route between Giju and Thyferra.[1] The system contained the planet Ghorman,[6] which orbited the system's star, known as the Ghorman sun.[4] In 2 BBY, an Imperial mining fleet affiliated with the Death Star Project arrived in the system and began deploying Mining rigs and Mining droids to Ghorman to Gouge mine the planet for the mineral Kalkite needed for the project. When the residents of Ghorman's capital city found this out, many of them protested in the capital square, but were met with a slaughter from Imperial forces in what became known as the Ghorman Massacre.[7] In the aftermath of the massacre, the senator in the Imperial Senate for Ghorman, Dasi Oran, was arrested, and Chandrilan senator Mon Mothma publicly denounced Galactic Emperor Sheev Palpatine,[8] with the speech shown on the HoloNet showing her describing the Ghorman system as one of countless systems helpless under Imperial rule.[5] Regardless however, imperial mining on Ghorman proceeded, devastating Ghorman, and resulting in significant breakthrough for the construction of the Death Star.[9]
