Galtea was an inhabited terrestrial object in the Galtea system of the Kathol sector situated in the Outer Rim Territories and the Western Reaches. In 230 BBY, Galtea became trapped behind the Stormwall barrier raised by the Nihil pirates, becoming a part of the Occlusion Zone region. The Occlusion Zone was dissolved in 228 BBY, after which its worlds were offered a place back in the Galactic Republic, yet some of them chose independence and some were kept under control of Nihil warlords.

Description

Galtea was an inhabited terrestrial astronomical object[1] located in grid square M-21 of the Standard Galactic Grid, in the Galtea system of the Kathol sector in[4] the Western Reaches[3] and the Outer Rim Territories. It shared its name with the Galtea Binary system.[4]

During the High Republic Era, a section of the Outer Rim that included Galtea was designated by the Galactic Republic as the Galactic Frontier, an area considered distant enough from the galaxy's central areas to send explorers to.[2] In 230 BBY, the Nihil marauders raised the Stormwall barrier, which prevented hyperspace travel and thus created the region known as the Occlusion Zone,[5] trapping numerous astronomical objects—including Galtea—in Nihil-controlled space.[1]

In 229 BBY,[6] Jedi Master Elzar Mann mentioned the beings trapped behind the Stormwall to Republic Supreme Chancellor Lina Soh to motivate her to not give up in the conflict against the Nihil, naming Galtea's population as one of several such examples.[1] The following year,[7] the Nihil surrendered to the Republic following the Stormwall's fall, dissolving the Occlusion Zone as a territory. The worlds of the Occlusion Zone,[8] including Galtea,[1] were welcomed back into the Republic if they wished. Some opted to remain independent, while other worlds remained under the control of individual Nihil warlords.[8]

Behind the scenes

Galtea was mentioned in the current Star Wars canon in the 2023 novel The High Republic: The Eye of Darkness, written by George Mann and published as a part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's[1] Phase III.[9] The planet Galtea was originally introduced in the Star Wars Legends continuity, where it first appeared in "Traitor in our Midst," a roleplaying adventure included in the 1995 supplement The DarkStryder Campaign that was published by West End Games for use with Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game.[10]
