- "Well, I can see things are going splendidly on this front."
- ―Jedi General Obi-Wan Kenobi, to Commander Cody
Yerbana was a terrestrial planet located in the Savareen sector's Yerbana system within the Outer Rim Territories. During the High Republic Era, in 230 BBY, the planet came to be located within the Occlusion Zone, the region of space controlled by the Nihil marauders surrounded by the impenetrable Stormwall barrier. While the world was in the Occlusion Zone, a Republic Defense Corps station near Yerbana was attacked by Nihil. In 228 BBY, the Stormwall fell, and the Nihil surrendered to the Republic, with worlds formerly within the Occlusion Zone being welcomed back into the Republic if they so chose.
In 19 BBY, during the Outer Rim Sieges of the Clone Wars between the Galactic Republic and Confederacy of Independent Systems, a battle was fought on Yerbana between the Grand Army of the Republic and the Separatist Droid Army. The battle resulted in a Republic victory after Jedi General Anakin Skywalker and his 501st Legion came to the aid of fellow Jedi General Obi-Wan Kenobi and the 212th Attack Battalion. Skywalker defeated the Separatists by faking a surrender and drawing out the super tactical droid that was leading the droid forces, enabling the Republic to capture Yerbana. The HoloNet News anchor Dorna Parros reported a story of a KX-series security droid recovering stolen property from raiders on Yerbana in 3 ABY, and author Kitrin Braves briefly covered the Battle of Yerbana in her biography of the Skywalker family, titled Skywalker: A Family at War, no earlier than 35 ABY.
Description
- "We've been running ever since. Hiding out on one of Yerbana's moons."
- ―Lieutenant Visma Tarko
Yerbana was located along the Triellus Trade Route in the Outer Rim Territories.
Yerbana was a terrestrial planet[6] within the Yerbana system in the Savareen sector of the Outer Rim Territories. Situated in grid square Q-17 on the Standard Galactic Grid,[1] Yerbana was connected by the Triellus Trade Route to[5] the planets[11][12] Arkanis and Llanic and was located just off the Corellian Run.[13] It had multiple moons,[4] a type I atmosphere[7] that was breathable, and a surface that had oceans; mountains covered in green vegetation; and canyons. The planet's cities were connected by bridges and often nestled among permanent clouds atop flat mountains high above the surface.[8]
History
High Republic Era
- "I mean, Lieutenant Tarko and I had been assigned to a station near Yerbana. We were on a transport with Six-En when our shuttle was attacked by Nihil. We got out in an escape pod."
- ―Corporal Elping Tsoo recounts his capture by the Nihil
Yerbana was within the original borders of the Occlusion Zone.
During the High Republic Era,[14] Yerbana was located[2] within a section of the Outer Rim designated as the Galactic Frontier by the Galactic Republic. The region was considered far enough from the galaxy's central regions to warrant the dispatching of explorers to its worlds.[14] In 230 BBY,[15] Yerbana fell within the borders of the Occlusion Zone, a region of space controlled by the marauder group known as the Nihil, after the formation of the Stormwall,[3] an impenetrable barrier that prevented all non-Nihil spacecraft from entering the area through hyperspace.[16]
While the planet was in the Occlusion Zone, Lieutenant Visma Tarko and Corporal Elping Tsoo of the Republic Defense Corps were assigned to a station near Yerbana with the protocol droid See-Zerosixen when their transport came under attack by the Nihil. The trio fled via an escape pod and hid on one of Yerbana's moons, where they stowed away on a ship that was itself captured by the Nihil. Months later,[4] in 228 BBY,[17] the officers recounted the events near Yerbana to Captains Joss and Pikka Adren.[4] That year,[18] the Stormwall fell and the Nihil surrendered to the Republic, dissolving the Occlusion Zone. Worlds formerly in the Occlusion Zone were welcomed back into the Republic if they so chose. However, some opted to remain independent, while Nihil warlords remained in control of others.[19]
Clone Wars
- "Anakin, where are you?"
"I'm right here." - ―Anakin Skywalker arrives to assist Obi-Wan Kenobi during the Battle of Yerbana
The 212th Attack Battalion struggles to gain ground on Yerbana.
During the Outer Rim Sieges of the Clone Wars between the Galactic Republic and the secessionist Confederacy of Independent Systems,[6] in 19 BBY,[20] military priority was given to key planets, such as Yerbana, Felucia, and Cato Neimoidia.[21] Yerbana was the site of a Republic offensive aimed at territories still under Separatist control.[8] The fighting took place on the planet's surface and in its atmosphere, contested by the forces of the Grand Army of the Republic's 501st Legion and 212th Attack Battalion against the Separatist Droid Army.[6] The Battle of Yerbana[22] was fought on multiple fronts, with the 501st, under the leadership of Jedi General Anakin Skywalker, and the 212th, under Jedi General Obi-Wan Kenobi, fighting separately. Eventually, Skywalker and the 501st were victorious in their engagement and moved to assist Kenobi and the 212th, who were struggling to make advancements on a large bridge outside a nearby city.[6]
Upon arrival on the bridge, Skywalker informed Kenobi that the 501st had come to his aid and teased him for hiding behind cover while the inhabitants of the nearby city suffered at the hands of the Separatists. Skywalker's plan started with him calling for a ceasefire and declaring surrender to the droid forces in an attempt to draw the enemy's super tactical droid into the open. Meanwhile, Clone Captain Rex led clone jetpack troopers of the 501st underneath the bridge.[6]
The jetpack troopers of the 501st flank the droid army.
After the tactical droid appeared in the open, having come out to see why the droid army had ceased fire, Skywalker pulled the droid toward him with the Force and decapitated it with his lightsaber. The clones underneath then activated their jetpacks and flew up over the bridge, flanking the droid army on both sides. The Republic's forces quickly defeated the droid army, and Skywalker and Kenobi were soon called back to a Venator-class Star Destroyer to receive a communication from the former Jedi Ahsoka Tano.[6] The battle for Yerbana ended in a Republic victory, taking control of the planet from the Separatists.[10]
Imperial Era and beyond
- "An Imperial KX droid became something of a local hero when it recovered a family's property from raiders on Yerbana. The droid delivered the stolen items after single-handedly destroying the raiders' outpost."
- ―Dorna Parros, HoloNet News
After the Republic transitioned into the Galactic Empire following the conclusion of the Clone Wars,[11] Yerbana fell under Imperial influence and the Logistics, Deployment, and Allotment Center was run by the Empire on the planet. During the Galactic Civil War, operatives of the Alliance to Restore the Republic managed to infiltrate and set up a makeshift hideout within the base to gather intelligence on Imperial activities, contact other rebels, and recharge without the Empire's notice.[9]
In 3 ABY,[24] the HoloNet News anchor Dorna Parros relayed a story about a KX-series security droid recovering the property of a family from raiders on Yerbana. The droid was said to have delivered the items to their rightful owners after destroying the raiders' outpost single-handedly, earning it the reputation of a local hero.[23] Sometime after the publishing of the historian Beaumont Kin's book The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire[11] in 35 ABY,[25] the journalist Kitrin Braves[11] published[26] her biography on the Skywalker family,[11] Skywalker: A Family at War,[27] which included a short description of the Battle of Yerbana during the Clone Wars.[26]
Locations
- "Master, I mean no disrespect. If you want, I can hide here with you, and we can let the people in the city suffer longer."
- ―Skywalker is sarcastic toward Kenobi for hiding behind cover
Yerbana was home to a city with towering skyscrapers. On the outskirts of the city, a massive bridge stretched over a deep chasm.[6] The Republic Defense Corps had a station near Yerbana.[4] The Galactic Empire later operated a logistics center on the planet, which rebel agents managed to infiltrate and also secretly operate out of.[9]
Behind the scenes
Lighting concept for Yerbana by Molly Denmark
Yerbana was first pictured in the official trailer for Season Seven of the animated television series Star Wars: The Clone Wars, which was released on January 22, 2020.[28] The planet first appeared in "Old Friends Not Forgotten,"[6] the season's ninth episode, which was released on April 17, 2020 on Disney+.[29] Concept art for Yerbana was created by Andre Kirk on August 2, 2018,[30][31] while the planet's lighting concept was done by Molly Denmark.[32]
The April 1, 2022[33] De Agostini reference book The End of the Clone Wars states that Yerbana is on the Corellian Run hyperspace route,[21] Meanwhile, the map[13] designed by Christopher Ibbitt[34] and created for the reference book Star Wars: Timelines and given out as a promotional poster at Celebration Anaheim[35] of May 26 through 29, 2022,[36] prior to the book's release during Celebration Europe[37] of April 7 through 10, 2023,[38] places the planet just off the route.[13] This article considers the map, which is the newer source, to be correct.
ILM's Rebel Hideout employee lounge
The planet also serves as the fictional setting for an employee lounge within One Letterman, Industrial Light & Magic's (ILM) San Francisco headquarters. The "Rebel Hideout" was designed and built over a decade to look and feel like an in-universe Star Wars location, with the in-universe location's name, Logistics, Deployment, and Allotment Center, intentionally sharing an acronym with the campus's former name, the Letterman Digital Arts Center. A playful backstory was imagined for the lounge, which placed the Rebel Hideout on Yerbana. While the actual lounge had its opening in May 2024, information regarding it was not released publicly until the article "Welcome to the Rebel Hideout: ILM's Employee-made 'Star Wars' Gathering Place" was published on ILM's website on August 26, 2025.[39]
