"You're not a local, are you? He's one of the mechs up the road, isn't he?"
―Stang, to Brasso and then Kellen[2]

Stang was an Imperial Army trooper in the Galactic Empire, and a sergeant in a contingent led by Lieutenant Krole during an Imperial Supply Census on the planet Mina-Rau in 4 BBY. When the contingent moved into Council 436, Krole left Stang in charge at a general store while he went to take advantage of an undocumented worker. While there, Stang saw the stormtroopers under him apprehend the undocumented worker Brasso.

Not long afterward, Corporal Pyke called in from Krole's transport to ask for help. Unable to get any response from the corporal, Stang gathered some reinforcements to help the pair. As they moved out on their transport, a TIE Avenger prototype flew overhead. While the sergeant thought it was on their side, the TIE, flown by the rebel spy Cassian Andor, fired a torpedo at the transport, destroying it with Stang.

During the reign of the Galactic Empire, Stang served as an Imperial Army trooper, going on to hold the rank of sergeant.[2] In 4 BBY,[1] he[3] was deployed with forces[2] tasked in carrying out an Imperial Supply Census on the agricultural planet Mina-Rau,[4] the first audit on that world in ten years. The Imperials surveyed Council Five Hundred, catching an undocumented individual running during their checks,[5] before going over Council Six Hundred, where a group of undocumented individuals were found hiding.[2]

Stang joined a contingent of Imperials moving into Council 436 the day after, comprised of army troopers and stormtroopers and led by Lieutenant Krole. In two Imperial vehicles, Unit One and Unit Two, they went to a general store that Krole and some of his troops had visited before. Unbeknownst to the Imperials, the proprietor of the store, Kellen, had secretly been trying to help three undocumented mechanicsBrasso, Bix Caleen, and Wilmon Paak—evade Imperial inspection. As Stang disembarked from Unit Two and looked around, Krole ordered the worker Aneth to feed the soldiers, asking for two meals to be saved as he intended to visit Caleen at her nearby mobil-haus and take advantage of her.[2]

Krole left Stang in charge and left on Unit One, driven by Corporal Pyke, to carry out his intentions with Caleen, stating that he would be back in an hour. While Stang and the other troops did a sweep, a stormtrooper found Brasso sneaking around, taking him back to the store. As Brasso arrived before Stang, the sergeant remarked that the captured man was not a local, asking Kellen if he was one of the mechanics living up the road. Brasso, intent on protecting Kellen, pretended to believe the store owner had ratted him out and tried to attack him. Stang had the stormtroopers pin the mechanic down, the sergeant telling Kellen that the latter was lucky the Imperials were there.[2]

Plan gone awry

"Mount up! Six with me, you five with the prisoner!"
―Stang gathers troops to assist Krole and Pyke[2]

While Stang ate with other soldiers inside the general store, Krole attempted to rape Caleen at her mobil-haus, only to be mortally injured by his victim. Hearing the lieutenant's screams, Pyke contacted Unit Two to ask for help, with Stang being summoned to the troop transport. The sergeant tried to reach Pyke, to no success, and the soldier that summoned him claimed it sounded like they were under attack. Stang thus ordered his troops to mount up, having three stormtroopers and two Army Troopers stay behind with Brasso. As the transport made its way toward Krole's position, the lieutenant died of his injuries, and Pyke was gunned down by Caleen.[2]

Additionally, the rebel spy Cassian Andor, a friend of Kellen and the undocumented mechanics, arrived in a stolen TIE Avenger prototype, flying over Stang's transport. Stang asked who called the TIE in, thinking it was one of theirs, while Andor flew back over and fired a torpedo at the transport, destroying it and all aboard. Andor then killed the rest of the Imperials at the general store as they pursued a fleeing Brasso. The spy was able to rescue Caleen and Paak, but Brasso was killed while trying to escape the Imperial troops.[2]

Stang was a human with light skin, light brown hair, and blue eyes. Upon Brasso's capture, he quickly deduced that the mechanic was not a local and told Kellen that he was lucky the Imperials were there to catch the undocumented worker. After a distress call from Pyke, the sergeant was quick to try and make contact, and mounted up reinforcements upon the suspicions that their comrades had been attacked.[2]

An Imperial Army trooper, Stang wore a gray uniform featured with pockets on his chest and arms and two black stripes below on his left upper arm. He additionally donned a black belt, black boots, and a gray Imperial kepi with black goggles on.[2]

Behind the scenes

"So proud to be part of such an amazing show. It was genuinely like stepping into another world. And what an unlikely turn of events to be working with my good pal @alexjordanvo after we both sent our audition tapes off whilst on holiday together in 2023. The job of dreams."
―James Craze reflects on being a part of Andor[6]

Stang first appeared in "Harvest,"[2] the third episode of the second season of the live-action Disney+ television series Star Wars: Andor, which aired on April 22, 2025.[7] The character was portrayed by James Craze.[2] Craze and fellow actor Alex Jordan originally sent in audition tapes for the show while on holiday together in 2023. Jordan ultimately got a role alongside his friend[6] as "Soldier #1."[2] Mina-Rau's outside scenes for Andor were filmed on Pinewood Studios' 007 stage.[8]
