Dyplotids were a sentient species that existed in the galaxy, possessing four eyes that allowed them to see both the ultraviolet and infrared spectrum. Members of the species had been present at locations such as the Lodge on Vandor and the First Light. Craykan was a member of this species who served as one of the three Tech Masters that ruled the planet Trionak, while Limal Pakt was a Dyplotid metalsmith who operated a shop in the Federal District on Coruscant.

Biology and appearance

Dyplotids were a bipedal humanoid sentient species that were commonly brown, pink, or purple in coloration, possessing two legs, as well as two arms that ended in five-fingered hands. Dyplotids had large craniums, with flat faces that displayed no visible nose. These faces did, however, feature four keen eyes which granted them the ability to observe both the infrared and ultraviolet ends of the color spectrum. The species could grow black or brown hair on the sides, top, and back of their heads, as well as facial hair such as beards.[1]

History

Dyplotids were present within the wider galaxy by 232 BBY.[5]

Dyplotids in the galaxy

Dyplotid Brooks was a mayor of a Nerf herding town.

Dyplotid Brooks was a mayor of a Nerf herding town.

During the High Republic era the Dyplotid Brooks was a mayor of a nerf herding town. Brooks had befriended Jedi Padawan Bell Zettifar, who returned to the town with Initiate Kai Brightstar on a mission to help the locals. When they arrived, Brooks was rallying citizens to confront Nerf rustlers who had stolen the herd, but he agreed to give the Jedi a chance to resolve it peacefully. The Jedi freed the herd, yet the rustlers intercepted them on the way back. A confrontation followed until the rustlers revealed they were descendants of former townsfolk who had been denied their share of the herd. Brooks settled the dispute by giving them the herd, restoring peace.[4]

In 231 BBY[6] a Dyplotid served with the Republic Defense Coalition troops and was present for a shootout on Vrant Tarnum between the Defense Coalition and Nihil Pirates. The troopers accompanied the Jedi investigator Emerick Caphtor on his mission to the Kharvashark Ruins while he was investigating the death of Loden Greatstorm.[7] The Dyplotid Limal Pakt was a highly recommended and qualified metalsmith who operated a shop in the Federal District of Republic City. Jedi Master Elzar Mann visited Pakt's shop to acquire a new diadem for Master Avar Kriss. Pakt wrapped the delicate object, which featured a triplet of small star gems fitted into the central arcing arrowtip, in silk after receiving final payment, for which Elzar thanked her for her astonishing work.[8]

Count Dooku visited Sullust on mission to Sullust[3] in 26 BBY.[9] There, a Dyplotid was present in a dining area when Dooku ate with Jedi Knight Jak'zin and SoroSuub Corporation representative Kap Klyp.[3] Sometime prior to 10 BBY[10] the Dyplotid Faddera Rabar[11] was a member of Enfys Nest's Cloud-Riders, Rabar was native to a world which had been devastated by one of the Five Crime Syndicates. Rabar was present for the Heist on Vandor and on Savareen where Rabar stood alongside eleven others as they confronted the crew, before bringing them inside a cantina for a drink.[2]

The Dylplotid Tarubo Bunzo was a Astantu Distillery sale representative who hailed from the Ring of Kafrene. he hoped to land a business deal with the crime boss Dryden Vos.[1] Bunzo was present aboard Dryden's ship First Light when Han Solo and his companions were introduced to Voss by his servant Qi’ra after failing to deliver on the Heist on Vandor.[2] Shortly before the Raid on Kessel, several Dylpotids were present within the Lodge at Fort Ypso when Crimson Dawn member Qi'ra brings Han Solo, Chewbacca, and Tobias Beckett there. Knowing they would need a fast ship for the Kessel heist, Qi’ra introduces the group to Lando Calrissian, a skilled smuggler and pilot who won his ship in a game of sabacc.[2]

Sometime Between 0 ABY and 3 ABY[12], Lord Craykan, a male Dyplotid, was one of the three Tech Masters who governed the junk planet Trionak. He sat on a large hovering throne in a grand chamber at the top of the Tech Masters' citadel, flanked by a Keredian Lord Ruk to the right and a bulky Elnacon Lady Yarla to the left.[13] An unfortunate Dyplotid served as one of Rothwell’s goons in the Grand Arena on Vespaara. He was Tossed into the stands of the arena by Twi'lek Hunter Tuya while cheering.[14]

In 9 ABY[15] a Dyplotid was present within a public house on the icy planet[16] Pagodon[17] when bounty hunter Din Djarin, using a tracking fob, was seeking a Mythrol fugitive.[16] Later, another Dyplotid was present within a bar on Nevarro when Din and Greef Karga discussed bounties.[18]

In 34 ABY[19], the Jedi artifact known as the Mural of the Light was uncovered by the Dyplotid Deek. He at one point planned to become partners with antique dealer Dok-Ondar until a falling out turned them into rivals. Deek travelled to an archaeological site in the ruins of Sardeevem Chasm where he believed the mural held significant historical value, but Dok knew it was actually a key to the treasure vaults of the lost Jedi Temple. As Deek feared the danger surrounding the discovery, multiple groups converged on the Chasm. Baron Yasto Attsmun of Listehol, a band of pirates following in his wake, and an independent hunter, Lens Kamo, all raced to obtain the cipher and reach the vault. Their search revealed that Deek had already been killed after hiding the relic to keep it from falling onto the black market.[20]

Behind the scenes

Dyplotids first appeared in Ron Howard's 2018 film Solo: A Star Wars Story. While not initially named onscreen[2] they were eventually identified in the visual dictionary for the film named Solo: A Star Wars Story The Official Guide.[1] For Solo, the mask used to represent the species was sculpted by Darren Nevin.[21]
