Travnin

Travnin was an Outer Rim Territories astronomical object situated in the Minos Cluster's Travnin system. In 232 BBY, Nihil Tempest Runner Pan Eyta captured seven prisoners traveling on a transport to Travnin. Following its formation in 230 BBY, the Nihil's Stormwall hyperspace barrier cut Travnin off from the rest of Galactic Republic space. The celestial body fell within the affected Occlusion Zone until the Stormwall's fall in 228 BBY.

Description

Travnin was a celestial body located in the Outer Rim Territories^[1] and the Western Reaches,^[3] within the Minos Cluster's Travnin system.^[4] It was situated in grid square M-20 of the Standard Galactic Grid.^[1] Travnin was connected via the Rimma Trade Route hyperspace route to the celestial body Tarabba^[1] and the planet^[5] Kennerla.^[1]

History

During the High Republic Era, the Galactic Republic designated a section of the Outer Rim^[6]—which included Travnin^[2]—as the Galactic Frontier, which was considered removed far enough from the galaxy's central regions to send explorers there.^[6] A passenger transport set out for Travnin^[7] in 232 BBY.^[8] However, before the vessel reached its destination, the Nihil marauders' leader, Marchion Ro, had the Tempest Runner Pan Eyta kidnap seven passengers from the transport. Those individuals were then imprisoned aboard Ro's flagship—the Gaze Electric—and tortured with electricity in order to keep the Jedi Master Loden Greatstorm from being able to focus on using the Force due to sensing the prisoners' pain. Ro later reflected that the individuals did not deserve to be prisoners on the Gaze Electric, as they had been innocent people traveling to Travnin, but then brushed off his musings by considering that life was never fair.^[7]

In 230 BBY, the Nihil formed the Occlusion Zone—an area of space in the Outer Rim's Frontier situated behind the Stormwall barrier that was preventing hyperspace travel.^[9] As one of the worlds within the Occlusion Zone,^[1] Travnin was cut off from the rest of Republic space.^[6] In 228 BBY,^[10] the Nihil surrendered to the Republic following the Stormwall barrier's fall, which dissolved the Occlusion Zone as a territory. The worlds of the Occlusion Zone were welcomed back into the Republic if they wished to rejoin. However, some instead opted to retain their independence, while others remained under the control of individual Nihil warlords.^[11]

Behind the scenes

In the current Star Wars canon, Travnin was first mentioned in the 2021 novel Light of the Jedi, written by Charles Soule as part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's^[7] Phase I.^[12] The moon Travnin originated in the Star Wars Legends continuity, where it was first mentioned in the 1990 sourcebook Galaxy Guide 6: Tramp Freighters, authored by Mark Rein-Hagen and Stewart Wieck and published for use with West End Games' Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game.^[13] It later made its first appearance in the 1993 roleplaying adventure "Parts is Parts," written by Wallace D. Greer for use with Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game and published in the sixty-eighth issue of the Challenge magazine. Since the article was released outside of the Lucas Licensing process,^[14] it is considered non-canon with respect to the Legends continuity.^[15]
