Snobbius Snee was a Keteerian pirate in the crew of Captain Silvo who took part in boarding a merchant freighter around 9 ABY. When the freighter's vault proved empty, the crew mutinied against Silvo, taking him prisoner and making the Shistavanen Brutus the new captain.

After Silvo escaped and was re-captured, he was put on trial on Brutus's frigate, where Snee announced that Brutus would deliver the verdict. Although the Shistavanen sentenced the former captain to death, Silvo convinced the crew to travel to the planet At Attin in search of an Old Republic mint during his Right of Last Appeal and so was spared.

At At Attin, Silvo killed Brutus and took command of the pirates again, gaining them entry through the Barrier that surrounded the world. During the pirates' subsequent invasion of the planet, Snee remained beside the pirate Gunter while he sat in the captain's chair on the bridge of the frigate. After the residents of At Attin sent a distress signal, a squadron of New Republic starfighters arrived and shot down the frigate, with Snee fleeing from the ship's bridge as it crashed.

Snobbius Snee was a Keteerian pirate who served in the crew of Captain Silvo. During the reign of the New Republic[1] around 9 ABY,[3] they took part in a boarding action against a merchant freighter. Snee boarded the freighter through a drill-tipped boarding tube and attacked the merchant crew, throwing one opponent to the ground and then slashing them with a machete.[1]

When the pirates discovered the freighter's vault to be empty, they mutinied against Silvo, having suffered several lean cycles and taken casualties in the attack.[1] Silvo was taken prisoner and held in the brig on the asteroid Port Borgo but escaped.[4]

The Rite of Last Appeal

After Silvo was re-captured on[2] the planet[5] Lanupa, the former captain was brought for trial on board the frigate of the pirates' new captain, the Shistavanen Brutus. With the other pirates gathered to watch, Snee announced from beside Brutus that the new captain would deliver his verdict, with the Shistavanen declaring Silvo guilty and sentencing him to death.[2]

After the pirate Chaelt interrupted to remind Brutus that Silvo was owed the Right of Last Appeal under the Pirate's Code, the Shistavanen growled at Snee, who announced that the right would be honored and Silvo would be granted equal time to defend himself. Silvo then spoke of the pirates' shared hunger for wealth after a lifetime of fighting over scraps, promising them that he could provide them the means to generate their own wealth. Revealing an Old Republic credit, he claimed to have learned of an Old Republic Mint on the planet At Attin, having heard its location from the legendary pirate Tak Rennod.[2]

Although Brutus pointed out that Rennod was dead, Silvo sang a shanty about Rennod and At Attin with the crew and received a cheer when he asked them to follow him to the treasure. With Silvo's equal time having finished, Snee moved down from beside Brutus into the crowd of pirates and grabbed a blaster rifle, following Silvo as he was dragged up to the new captain. Brutus then declared that they would travel to At Attin, but that Silvo would still be executed if the world proved a disappointment.[2]

When the frigate arrived above At Attin, Snee leaned against a console while talking to the pirate Gunter on the bridge. As the world was surrounded by a Barrier that appeared to be a toxic maelstrom, Brutus quickly moved to execute Silvo; however, the former captain convinced the pirates that the treasure lay hidden behind the Barrier. After they captured the Onyx Cinder, a starship able to pass through the Barrier, Silvo killed Brutus and retook his place of captain.[6]

Silvo then traveled to the surface of At Attin on board the Onyx Cinder[6] and forced[7] Undersecretary[1] Fara to allow the frigate through the Barrier and then contacted the bridge of the pirate ship via hologram. On the bridge, Snee stood beside Gunter, who had taken the captain's chair, as Silvo gave Gunter orders to bring the frigate down to At Attin's surface. Once in At Attin's atmosphere, the frigate began firing on a city[7] and deployed drop-teams in dropships[8] to round up its residents.[7]

During the invasion, Snee remained on the bridge with Gunter and watched as he gave the order to fire on the Onyx Cinder, which was taking off from the city so that the At Attin resident KB could send a distress signal to the New Republic. Before the frigate could fire, KB's friend Neel fired a turbolaser from the city, destroying the frigate's main cannon and rocking the bridge, forcing Snee to steady themself to avoid falling over. KB succeeded in sending the signal, and, once Fara and[7] her[8] colleague Wendle brought down the Barrier entirely, a squadron of New Republic starfighters arrived to confront the pirates.[7]

A pair of New Republic A/SF-01 B-wing starfighters then shot down the frigate. Snee ignored Gunter's orders for those on the bridge to remain at their posts and fled from the bridge as the ship slowly plummeted toward the city, where it crashed.[7]

Personality and traits

Snee had brown skin and black eyes.[1]

Equipment

Snee wore a black jacket lined with brown fur over a gray shirt and black pants with a brown pauldron on their left shoulder. Gold chains and a red sash hung from the Keteerian's belt,[2] and in combat they used a machete[1] and a blaster rifle.[2]

Behind the scenes

"My character "Snobbius Snee" was known only by his nickname, "Batclam," while we were shooting Skeleton Crew. You can probably see where it comes from! Since he was one of the more prominent creatures that our tiny department dealt with, Andrea (who coined the nickname) and I turned it into a little patch as our department's crew gift, based on a Batman '66 style doodle I had done."

Snobbius Snee was voiced by John Hodgman[2] and portrayed by performance artist Jasper Anderson in the Disney+ live-action series Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, first appearing in the first episode, "This Could Be a Real Adventure,"[1] which aired on December 2, 2024.[10] The character's name was not spoken in the episode, but was listed in the credits.[1]

While playing the character, Anderson wore a muscle suit under the pirate costume and had an animatronic head that was puppeteered by Andrea Detwiler,[11] the show's specialty creature supervisor,[2] via radio control. The head had been built by Neal Scanlan's team for a previously released Star Wars film.[11] Terrib Igmusk[12] from the 2017 sequel trilogy film Star Wars: Episode VIII The Last Jedi is the only Keteerian character who appeared in a film prior to the release of the episode.[13]

Anderson spent about a week portraying the character but did not learn that Snee had been named until seeing the credits upon the show's release.[11] During production, the character was known only as "Batclam," a nickname coined by Detwiler. Given the character's prominence, Anderson and Detwiler made a patch of Snee as their team's crew gift for the show based on a sketch Anderson made of the character referencing the logo of the 1966 Batman television series.[9]

  3. Star Wars: Timelines dates the events of "Chapter 1: The Mandalorian" of The Mandalorian Season One to 9 ABY. In addition, SWInsider "A Certain Point of View" — Star Wars Insider 228 also dates "Part Seven: Dreams and Madness" to nine years after the events of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, which corresponds to 9 ABY per Timelines. "Part Seven: Dreams and Madness" takes place after the conflict on Mandalore, which is the main event depicted in "Chapter 23: The Spies" and "Chapter 24: The Return," the final two episodes of The Mandalorian Season Three. Therefore, Seasons One through Three of Star Wars: The Mandalorian must all be set in 9 ABY as well. StarWars.com SWCA 2022: 20 Highlights from Lucasfilm's Studio Showcase on StarWars.com (backup link) states that Star Wars: Skeleton Crew takes place in the same timeframe as Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Star Wars: Ahsoka—the latter of which can also be dated to 9 ABY following the reasoning here. As such, Skeleton Crew must take place around 9 ABY as well.
