A family of three skura chitter as they forage among stones
The skura was a species of vermingilua found on the secluded planet Bal'demnic where the Sith known as the Stranger lived. They used their long snouts to forage on the stony shores of an island on the world, feeding on stone fleas and formants in sea caves. Skura used their slate gray skin and slab-like heads to camouflage themselves when danger approached. In 132 BBY, the former Jedi Verosha Aniseya encountered a family of skura on the world after she was brought there by the Stranger.

Skura had slabbed-shaped heads and slate gray bodies.
Skura were a species[5] of small and tubby vermingilua,[1] a form of avian,[5] that foraged[2] on the stony, island shores of[4] the planet[1] Bal'demnic[6] in the Auril sector of the Outer Rim. Their nests dotted ledges across the island and led down to deeper burrows, with skura feeding on stone fleas and formants in seaside caves.[1]
Their bodies were round with a stubby tail at the rear and two short legs with diamond-shaped feet beneath.[4] Skura had slabbed-shaped heads[3] with a protruding black eye on each side and a long, pink snout[2] similar to that of an anteater,[3] which they used to find sustenance while foraging.[2]
The creatures' skin was slate gray, which, along with their head shape, allowed them to camouflage themselves among the rocks of their home, sometimes freezing in place when they sensed danger approaching,[3] although they would also squeal and chitter while fleeing from some threats.[4] Skura stood 0.15 meters tall,[2] while their young were around the size of a duckling.[3]
History

A baby skura chitters and then squeals when Verosha Aniseya approaches
In 132 BBY,[7] a young skura entered a cave[4] on Bal'demnic,[6] a planet where the Sith known as the Stranger lived. It began chittering and rooting around in a bag strewn on the cave's floor until the former Jedi Verosha Aniseya—who had been captured and brought to the cave by the Stranger—awoke nearby and moved toward it. The young skura climbed out of the bag and then squealed while dashing out of the cave away from Aniseya. When Aniseya herself exited the cave and walked down toward the shore of the island the cave was on, she passed[4] a family of foraging skura consisting of two parents and a child. The trio froze as she walked by, turning to watch her reach the water's edge.[3]
A family of skura encountered Verosha Aniseya on the island they inhabited.
Later that day, the trio of skura[4] stood camouflaged[3] on top of a pile of rocks[4] and stared out to sea as the parents nuzzled their heads together.[3] The family were then foraging near the beach with the child stood upon the back of one of the parents when Aniseya and the Stranger crossed the shore to reach the Sith's starship,[8] the Exile II.[9] The child looked up at the pair as they passed in the distance.[8]
Behind the scenes
Skura first appeared in "Teach / Corrupt,"[4] the sixth episode of the live-action television series Star Wars: The Acolyte, which aired July 2, 2024 on Disney+.[10] The script for the episode described the creatures as part anteater, part duck.[11] The exterior scenes including the skura were shot in Ribeira da Janela on Madeira, Portugal, while the interior scenes were shot in Shinfield Studios,[12] England.[13] The skura were not identified in the episode[4] but were named in both a Databank entry[2] and the Episode Guide on StarWars.com[11] the following day.[14]
