"But what of the attacks on Quantxi and Salissia? Remnants or not, they still pose a threat."
―Vaadu, during a meeting[4]

Salissia was a celestial body located in the Outer Rim Territories[1] and the Slice's[2] Salissia system,[3] situated in grid square T-5 of the Standard Galactic Grid.[1] The astronomical object shared its name with the Salissians, a group active in the galaxy during the Republic Era[5] that also originated from the Salissia system.[6] The Nihil marauder organization attacked Salissia at some point after the Battle of Kur[4] in 232 BBY.[7] In a Senate meeting[4] the following year,[7] the Republic Senator Vaadu cited the attack on Salissia as one piece of evidence that the Nihil continuing to operate—presumed to be remnants of the group—still posed a threat to the upcoming Republic Fair being hosted on the Outer Rim planet Valo. However, Jedi Master Avar Kriss and the event's coordinator, Samera Ra-oon, countered Vaadu's argument by insisting enough security would be present, ultimately resulting in the Republic's Supreme Chancellor Lina Soh continued support for the Republic Fair's planning to continue.[4]

Behind the scenes

In the current Star Wars canon, Salissia was first mentioned in the 2021 novel The High Republic: The Rising Storm, written by Cavan Scott[4] for the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's Phase I.[8] In the Star Wars Legends continuity, the Salissia system was introduced in the 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas, written by Jason Fry and Daniel Wallace.[9]

The Essential Atlas and Galactic Cartography: Official Discussion (post by jasonfry) on the Jedi Council Forums' Literature board (December 11, 2007): "I wouldn't get your hopes up re alien homeworlds, beyond simple stuff like the Planetnamian species getting a Planetnamia on the map or things Dan and I can account for with a relatively quick reference." (backup link) (screenshot) Jason Fry, co-author of The Essential Atlas and a number of maps in the current Star Wars canon (see a list here), stated his intention to create homeworlds for numerous species based on context implied from their names. Given this principle, this article makes a similar basic assumption for Salissians in relation to Salissia system.
