"Initiate the planetwide evacuation procedure! And alert the Starlight!"
―The satellite's captain, as an Emergence threatened the Trymant system[1]

Republic Security Zone Monitoring Satellite 777B-Alpha was a Galactic Republic monitoring satellite situated in the Trymant system during the High Republic Era. In 232 BBY, its crew sent a distress signal to the Starlight Beacon space station after an Emergence—pieces of hyperspace debris from the destroyed Legacy Run freighterentered the star system.

Description

Republic Security Zone Monitoring Satellite 777B-Alpha was a monitoring satellite located in[1] the Subterrel sector's[3] Trymant system,[1] a part of the Western Reaches[2] and Outer Rim Territories regions of the galaxy.[1] It was situated in grid square L-20 of the Standard Galactic Grid[3] and orbited one of the Trymant system's celestial bodies. The satellite maintained several workspaces for workers to access radars, panels, and screens used for monitoring.[1]

History

"…blah, blah, sector 17: nothing remarkable, sector 18: nothing remarkable, sector 19: nothing—Hold up!"
―A Dug worker to themselves, while working on Republic Security Zone Monitoring Satellite 777B-Alpha[1]

During the High Republic Era, the Galactic Republic operated Republic Security Zone Monitoring Satellite 777B-Alpha and situated it in the Trymant system. Its staff included a human captain and a Dug worker, the latter of whom monitored sectors of the system—such as sector 17, sector 18, and sector 19—via their workstation.[1]

In 232 BBY, the Great Hyperspace Disaster spurred Emergences—parts of hyperspace debris from the destroyed Legacy Run freighter—to start emerging from space and striking celestial bodies throughout the galaxy.[4] Not long after, Republic Security Zone Monitoring Satellite 777B-Alpha detected the Emergence debris heading toward the system's celestial bodies, with the Dug calling out when they noticed the situation. The satellite's captain issued a planetwide evacuation procedure and alerted the Starlight Beacon space station to the situation. Afterward, the Dug commented that they should prepare to flee themselves, as well, staring at the debris coming out of hyperspace in shock.[1]

Starlight Beacon relayed the satellite's message to the Padawan Academic Cruiser Star Hopper—the only Jedi or Republic vessel in range of the planet Trymant IV—which then jumped to hyperspace to rush to the threatened world[1] as a Republic rescue fleet was assembled.[5] Ultimately, all of Trymant IV's moons[6][7] were destroyed in the event, while the world itself was shifted closer to the system's second sun, resulting in its aboveground water evaporating and its terrain turning to desert.[6]

Behind the scenes

Republic Security Zone Monitoring Satellite 777B-Alpha debuted in the first issue of the 2021 comic series Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures,[1] released as part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's Phase I. The issue was written by Daniel José Older, illustrated by Harvey Tolibao, and published by IDW Publishing on February 3, 2021.[8] On November 17, 2020, a StarWars.com article announcing the comic series included a preview containing uncolored pages from the first issue, which featured the satellite.[9]
