Jedi Quest: The School of Fear is the fifth in a series of young-reader novels that chronicle the adventures of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker between Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace and Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones.
Publisher's summary
Master and apprentice.
Chosen by fate. Destined for conflict.
A Senator's son has vanished. A secret squad of renegade students exists in the shadows of his elite leadership school. Do they have something to do with the disappearance? Or is it linked to the Senator's unseen political foes, who are pushing the planet toward war?
The only way to solve the mystery and maintain peace is for two Jedi apprentices—Anakin Skywalker and his rival, Ferus Olin—to infiltrate one of the fiercest places in the galaxy: school.
Plot summary
The Leadership School on Andara trains the next generation of the galaxy’s privileged and elite beings to excel, but the sudden disappearance of one of its pupils – Gillam Tarturi, son of an influential Senator – is cause for a Jedi probe. Two Master-Padawan teams, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker, and Siri Tachi and Ferus Olin, have been sent to Andara to investigate the disappearance of Gillam Tarturi, the son of the Senator of Andara. It is believed that he was kidnapped to distract the Senator from the political problems in his home system, possibly with the help of a young squad of mercenaries thought to be based at Andara's elite Leadership School—the same school Gillam disappeared from. Jedi undercover agents Anakin and Ferus enroll as transfer students at the school, Anakin supposedly on a scholarship and Ferus as the son of a high Mid-Rim official. Meanwhile, Obi-Wan and Siri investigate the ongoing Andaran system political struggle.
Gillam engineered his own disappearance as a vengeful strike against his father. Though the Jedi are able to scuttle this plot, Obi-Wan Kenobi is deeply disappointed in Anakin’s decision to support the mercenaries and his poor focus on the Jedi Code throughout this mission.
Continuity
The supporting character of Reymet Autem first appeared in the Star Wars: Republic comic book story Honor and Duty (published in issues #46-48, 2002), which occurred later in the timeline. The Autem family story was more fully explored in comics books.[1]
The novel misspelled Mas Amedda's name as "Mas Ameeda."
