Jedi Quest: The Final Showdown is the tenth in a series of young reader novels that chronicle the adventures of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker between Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace and Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones.

This book features a journey to Korriban to stop Granta Omega, an enemy of the Jedi, along with Jenna Zan Arbor, an evil scientist, from meeting a dangerous Sith. The Jedi meet many perils, including ancient visions, an entire army, and the dangers of the Valley of the Dark Lords. The Final Showdown, written by Jude Watson brings one, debatable outcome:

Is an uneasily obtained success worth a loss that could have been avoided?

Publisher's summary

Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker.
Master and apprentice.
Chosen by fate. Destined for conflict.

Granta Omega is an evil mastermind who has one goal: to help the Sith destroy the Jedi Order. Now Omega has escaped to the planet of Korriban—home to the tombs of the ancient Sith Lords and their terrible secrets. Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker must stop him before his sinister power grows out of control.

They are not alone on this mission. Anakin's rival, Ferus, is also searching for Omega, and Anakin sees this as a contest he must win. But as the dark side of the Force becomes stronger and stronger, there is only one guaranteed outcome for any showdown:

Death.

Plot summary

Granta Omega, still desperate to curry favor with the secret Sith Lord, arranges a meeting on Korriban, ancient tombworld of the long-vanished Sith Empire. A team of Jedi Knights and their Padawans arrives in time to stop this union. The Sith Lord, unseen by the Jedi, vanishes without a trace, as does Jenna Zan Arbor, abandoning Omega and his impassioned vendetta. Obi-Wan Kenobi is forced to slay Omega in the ruins of a Sith temple when the unreasonable son of Xanatos will not relent.

While on the mission to the dark side-enshrouded world, Anakin Skywalker struggles with his feeling of rivalry toward Ferus Olin. With deep-seated jealousy he observes the growing friendship between Ferus and Tru Veld, his best friend among the Padawans. Anakin’s desire to see Ferus trip up causes him to keep quiet about a potentially disastrous repair Ferus has made on Tru’s lightsaber. The weapon fails in combat with Commerce Guild droids, leading to the death of Padawan Darra Thel-Tanis. Ferus resigns of the Jedi Order as penance, while Anakin forever loses his friendship with Tru Veld.

Continuity

The Sith Lord’s presence was spoken of in the novel, but he was not specified as Darth Tyranus until The Desperate Mission (2005), the first book of The Last of the Jedi series. At one point in this story, the events in The Dangerous Games (2002) were described as occurring six years earlier, but the timeline fits in such events as being four years earlier.[1]
