Security droids were armed fourth-degree droids used for defense in starships or in buildings. This group included both military security droids and battle droids in use as ship security personnel.

Security droids specifically programmed to injure people were relatively rare, and illegal in many systems.[2]

OOM security battle droids were one model,[3] as was Z-58-0.

Detainment droids were another type of security droid. They were used extensively in Imperial and New Republic detention centers to restrain, guard, and secure prisoners.
