"Following the attack on Valo, the Unified Republic Task Force has tackled Nihil marauders on Aris, Port Haven, and Golrath. They're running scared."
―Stellan Gios, to his colleagues[4]

Golrath was an Outer Rim astronomical object where the Unified Republic Task Force defeated Nihil marauders in 231 BBY. Three years later, it was enveloped in the Nihil's Occlusion Zone following the expansion of the Stormwall hyperspace barrier, though the region was dissolved following the marauders' surrender later that year. By 2 BBY, it served as a regional headquarters and operations sector for Senator Mon Mothma's organized rebellion against the Galactic Empire.

Description

Golrath was a terrestrial astronomical object[4] located in the Sanbra sector's Golrath system within the Outer Rim Territories[1] and the Trailing Sectors.[2] It was situated in grid square O-17 of the Standard Galactic Grid.[3]

History

In 231 BBY,[5] following a devastating attack on the Galactic Republic's fair at[4] the planet[5] Valo by the Nihil marauders, the Unified Republic Task Force fought the Nihil on Golrath and emerged victorious. Victories against the Nihil on Golrath and the celestial bodies Aris and Port Haven were reported by Jedi Master Stellan Gios during a meeting with his colleagues in the Jedi Order and Republic regarding their campaign against the Nihil.[4]

Golrath became part of the Occlusion Zone.

Golrath became part of the Occlusion Zone.

Three years later,[6] Golrath[3] became part of the Nihil's Occlusion Zone—an area of space cut off from hyperspace travel[7]—following the first expansion of the region's Stormwall barrier.[3] Later the same year,[8] the Nihil surrendered to the Republic following the Stormwall barrier's fall, which dissolved the Occlusion Zone as a territory. The worlds of the Occlusion Zone[7]—which included Golrath[3]—were welcomed back into the Republic if they wished. However, some opted to retain their independence, while others remained under the control of individual Nihil warlords.[7]

By 2 BBY,[9] Golrath was used as an operations headquarters by an organized rebellion against the Galactic Empire, which was secretly led by Senator Mon Mothma. A map of the galaxy sent to Mothma noted it among rebel safe worlds, starfighter hubs at level five or higher, operations headquarters, shadow planets, and deep space caches. The archivist Hendri Underholt eventually included the map in the compilation of non-electronic documents known as The Rebel Files.[10]

Behind the scenes

Golrath was first mentioned in the current Star Wars canon in the 2017 reference book Star Wars: The Rebel Files, written by Daniel Wallace.[10] Originating in the Star Wars Legends continuity, the planet Golrath first appeared in the fiftieth issue of Marvel Comics' 1977 Star Wars comic-book run,[11] written by Archie Goodwin, penciled by Al Williamson and Walter Simonson, and released on May 19, 1981.[12]

  6. Star Wars: Timelines dates Starlight Beacon's destruction to 230 BBY. The implementation of the Guardian Protocols, which Star Wars: The High Republic Character Encyclopedia places in 229 BBY, took place one week after Starlight Beacon's fall according to The High Republic – Shadows of Starlight 1. As The High Republic Adventures (2023) 4 takes place one year and two weeks after the destruction of Starlight Beacon, it must be set in 228 BBY. Since the events of The High Republic Adventures (2023) 6 are set immediately following the fourth issue and depict the expansion of the Stormwall, the events in The High Republic: The Eye of Darkness following the expansion must take place in the same year.
