The Vigilance was an Imperial-class Star Destroyer active after the Battle of Yavin leading a fleet which included Helix Squadron. Under orders from Darth Vader, the fleet participated in the Battle at Fostar Haven to destroy the Alderaanian refugee convoy.[3]

For her efforts in discovering the prior whereabouts of the Millennium Falcon, Darth Vader awarded the ship's command to Commodore Rae Sloane,[8] who had commanded the ship at Fostar Haven,[3] instead of Firmus Piett's nephew as originally intended.[8] Sloane commanded the ship at the Battle of Endor.[9]

Later, it was still under the command of Admiral Rae Sloane during the months following the Battle of Endor. During this period the ship was encountered by Captain Wedge Antilles, a pilot for the New Republic, over Akiva.[2][6] Antilles was captured by the crew of the Vigilance. He was taken to the planet's surface by Admiral Sloane, where he escaped and sent a distress signal to the New Republic. The New Republic then dispatched a fleet of five ships. In the ensuing battle, the Vigilance and a second Star Destroyer, the Ascent, were destroyed; and Admiral Sloane escaped aboard the remaining Star Destroyer, the Vanquish.[2]
