"We found her in a Separatist prison camp after she deserted the Republic, and she paid her dues long ago."
―Saw Gerrera[3]

Atoa was an ice planet with frigid temperature. It was located in the Atoa system within the Expansion Region's Ghost Nebula sector in grid P-10 of the Standard Galactic Grid. During the Clone Wars, between 22 to 19 BBY, the Confederacy of Independent Systems set a prison camp on Atoa. Karama, a former reporter of the Galactic Republic, was one of the prisoners before eventually joining the Partisans after getting rescued by the resistance fighter Saw Gerrera.

In 9 ABY, during the competitive sporting show Hunters of the Outer Rim, the human Hunter Sentinel did an interview where he reminisced on his time as an Imperial stormtrooper when he was deployed on an ice planet, though he could not recall if it was Atoa or other ice planets Hoth and Gigor. On that ice planet, Sentinel claimed to have fought victorious against a bonzami or a wampa and also found a Permafrost crystal, which he later used to supposedly defeat a Fireworm during his next deployment.

Description

"Remember the ice planet I was talking about before? Atoa, right? Before I left, I grabbed a Permafrost crystal. So now on the lava planet, when the Fireworm opened up its jaws and came for me, I shoved the crystal right in its maw."
―Sentinel[2]

Atoa was a planet known for its icy environment and frigid temperature.[2] It was located in the Atoa system within the Expansion Region's Ghost Nebula sector in grid P-10 of the Standard Galactic Grid.[1] One of the known locations of the planet was a Separatist prison camp set up during the Clone Wars.[3]

History

Prisoners of war

Between 22 to 19 BBY,[4] during the Clone Wars—a war between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems—the Separatist established a prison camp on Atoa. Among its prisoners was Karama—a former reporter for the Republic's military news feeds—who later joined the Partisans after being found and rescued by the resistance fighter Saw Gerrera from the prison camp.[3]

Dubious tale

In 9 ABY,[5] the human Hunter Sentinel[6] did an interview[2] for the competitive sporting show Hunters of the Outer Rim[7] and revealed stories about his past as a stormtrooper of the Galactic Empire. In one of his stories, Sentinel explained that at some point during his Imperial service, he was deployed to an ice planet—though he could not remember if it was Atoa or other ice planets, Hoth and Gigor. On that same mission, he claimed to have gotten separated from other troopers due to low visibility from the heavy pouring snow, forcing Sentinel to continue his deployment alone. Sentinel proceeded to tell the fans how he later tripped over another trooper—who was completely frozen solid—and found an E-Web heavy repeater half-buried in the snow next to him, which was supposedly hinted to be the same weapon Sentinel was using for the sporting show,[2] the Prototype E-Web.[8]

Continuing his reminisce, the frozen trooper then woke up and stared right at Sentinel as a creature—which he thought was either a bonzami or a wampa—approached him, though he managed to defeat it with the heavy repeater he had found and used the body of the fallen creature as a "blanket" to survive for the night.[2] Another competitor of the show,[7] Imara Vex, later came in to the interview while Sentinel was on a bio-break to debunk his story of how he got the Prototype E-Web, adding that Sentinel might have bought the heavy repeater from Brinna's Blasters. Returning to the interview, Sentinel claimed to also have found a Permafrost crystal on the ice planet, which he supposedly used to defeat a Fireworm by putting the crystal in its maw while on his next deployment on a lava planet, though he was again unsure of it was either the planets Senna or Mustafar. Vex then returned once more to debunk Sentinel's dubious claims.[2]

The planet Atoa in Star Wars Legends

Atoa was introduced in the current Star Wars canon via the video game Star Wars: Hunters, which was developed by NaturalMotion's BossAlien[7] and initially published by Zynga on November 16, 2021 as a soft launch[9] before the global release on June 4, 2024.[10] The mention of the planet was included in a quote as part of the "Sentinel Mastery II" questline.[2] In the Star Wars Legends continuity, Atoa first appeared in the first issue of the 2011 Dark Horse comic book mini-series Star Wars: Darth Vader and the Lost Command, which was written by W. Haden Blackman and illustrated by Rick Leonardi.[11]
