Zaloriis was a terrestrial astronomical object[3] located in the Askarian sector's Zaloriis system, which was situated in the Expansion Region[1] and the Slice.[2] It was situated in grid square P-12 of the Standard Galactic Grid.[1] Zaloriis was inhabited by Zalorians.[3]
Shortly before the Battle of Hoth[4] in the year 3 ABY,[5] a campaign[6] occurred on Zaloriis between the Zalorians and the Galactic Empire,[3] involving a revolt there.[7] The human male Maximilian Veers demonstrated his cunning, courage,[3] and leadership[4] in the campaign,[3] and won it for the Empire with the use of new tactics he developed.[7] The conflict on Zaloriis was one of several conflicts that led to Veers' eventual promotion to the rank of general in the Imperial Army,[3] and assignment to the Sith Lord Darth Vader's Death Squadron.[7] It was also mentioned in the Galactic Explorer's Guide authored by the pirate Hondo Ohnaka and his protocol droid DK-RA-43 after the Battle of Starkiller Base[6] in 34 ABY.[5]
Behind the scenes
In the current canon, Zaloriis was introduced via mention in The Empire Strikes Back: So You Want to Be a Jedi?.
Zaloriis was first mentioned in canon in Adam Gidwitz's 2015 children's book So You Want to Be a Jedi?, a retelling of the[3] 1980[8] film Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back.[3] In the Star Wars Legends continuity, the barren and sandy planet Zaloriis was first mentioned in Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds: Prima's Official Strategy Guide by Steven L. Kent,[9]—released on November 7, 2001[10]—before appearing in the LucasArts video game Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds,[11] released on November 11, 2001.[12] In the game, the player controls the Imperial Army, including Maximilian Veers, in the Galactic Empire campaign and must defeat a Rebel uprising.[11]
Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, an immersive canon roleplaying experience at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida[13] that opened to the public on March 1, 2022,[14] and had its final voyage from September 28 to 30, 2023,[15] features several galactic maps that note an unlabeled celestial body[13] corresponding to the placement of the Zaloriis system in Star Wars Legends.[16] However, an explicit connection between the two in-universe locations has not yet been established.
