- "Zaloriis formally declares its independence!"
- ―Minister Transe Decar
The Zaloriis system was located in the Askarian sector within the Expansion Region. It contained the desert planet Zaloriis, which served as the site of the development of the Galactic Empire's All Terrain Armored Transport. The planet's Human Zalorian inhabitants rebelled against the Empire prior to the Battle of Hoth in 3 ABY, but were defeated.
Description
The Zaloriis system was a star system located in the Askarian sector,[1] a part of the Slice portion of[2] the Expansion Region.[1] The system contained the desolate desert planet Zaloriis.[3] Through the Nanth'ri Trade Route hyperlane, the Zaloriis system was connected to[1] the Hasaq,[2] Circarpous and Attahox systems.[1]
History
- "Zaloriis proved to be less than equal to the task of resisting Vader's will."
- ―Emperor's Hand Mara Jade
The Galactic Empire eliminated the Rebels on Zaloriis.
During the Imperial Era, the Galactic Empire secretly developed the All Terrain Armored Transport on Zaloriis under the direction of Colonel Maximilian Veers. Later, during the Galactic Civil War, Zalorian Separatists under the leadership of Zalor Minister Transe Decar sought independence from the Empire, joining forces with the Alliance to Restore the Republic. Shortly before the Battle of Hoth[3] of 3 ABY,[4] the Sith Lord Darth Vader was searching for the hidden Rebel base and traveled to Zaloriis to investigate why the planet's monthly tribute to the Empire had gone unpaid. He entered the Zaloriis system with his Super Star Destroyer, the Executor, along with another Imperial-class Star Destroyer, a host of TIE fighters, and a Lambda-class T-4a shuttle. On Zaloriis, Vader's force discovered the Rebel presence and destroyed it. The Sith Lord and Veers afterward departed the system.[3]
Inhabitants
Zaloriis was home to a Human population called the Zalorians, who spoke Galactic Basic Standard.[3]
Behind the scenes
The Zaloriis system first appeared in the 2001 LucasArts video game Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds.[3] It was identified in the 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas by Daniel Wallace and Jason Fry, which placed it in grid square P-12 as part of the Expansion Region,[2] overriding Galactic Battlegrounds, which stated that Zaloriis was in the Outer Rim Territories.[3]
