A campaign occurred on the astronomical object Zaloriis[5] shortly before the Battle of Hoth[1] in 3 ABY.[3] The conflict involved the Galactic Empire and the Zalorians, the inhabitants of Zaloriis,[1] and came about in response to a revolt there.[4] The human male Maximilian Veers participated in the campaign on behalf of the Empire, where he demonstrated his courage, cunning,[1] and leadership[2] while utilizing several new tactics of his own design. Veers won the campaign for the Empire.[4] His attributes led to his eventual promotion to the rank of general in the Imperial Army,[1] and attracted the attention of the Sith Lord Darth Vader, who requested that Veers be added to his personal Death Squadron.[4] The campaign was mentioned in the Galactic Explorer's Guide authored by the pirate Hondo Ohnaka and his protocol droid DK-RA-43 after the Battle of Starkiller Base[5] in 34 ABY.[3]
Behind the scenes
In the current canon, the conflict was first introduced via indirect mention in So You Want to Be a Jedi?.
The conflict on Zaloriis was given an indirect mention in canon in Adam Gidwitz's 2015 children's book So You Want to Be a Jedi?, a retelling of the[1] 1980[6] film Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back.[1] The conflict was identified as a campaign in Star Wars: The Galactic Explorer's Guide, a 2019 reference book by Jason Fry.[5]
The battle was originally mentioned in the Star Wars Legends continuity in Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds: Prima's Official Strategy Guide by Steven L. Kent,[7]—released on November 7, 2001[8]—before appearing in the LucasArts video game Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds,[9] released on November 11, 2001.[10] Within the game, the fourth level of the Galactic Empire campaign occurs on the planet Zaloriis, where the player controls the Imperial Army and must defeat the Rebel Alliance. At the end of the level, Maximilian Veers receives his promotion from colonel to general.[9]
