"It was a tradition on my home planet, you see? The name of your greatest teacher—"
"Worn on your skin?"
"Don't look so shocked, young one. It was a sign of great respect. A way to celebrate their part in your journey."
―Yarzion Vell and Ordea[1]

A terrestrial planet was the homeworld of the Jedi Yarzion Vell, a member of a humanoid species. By 230 BBY, when Vell was a Padawan, he returned to his home planet on a mission and had himself tattooed with the name of his Jedi Master, Lulad, in accordance with the planet's tradition. When she learned what he had done, she had Vell's name tattooed on her head. Vell later mentioned his home planet and its tradition to Jedi Master Kelnacca, who took over Vell's training after Lulad's death, and to his own Padawan, Ordea.

Description

The planet was terrestrial and had[1] a Type I atmosphere[2] breathable by multiple species.[1]

History

"I explained to Kelnacca how it had been a spur-of-the-moment decision on a mission back home. I'd only been a Padawan for a few months. Can't say I thought it through properly."
―Yarzion Vell, to Ordea[1]

The planet was the homeworld of the Jedi Yarzion Vell. A few months into Vell's training as a Padawan, he returned to his home planet on a mission. The planet had a tradition of individuals wearing the name of their greatest teacher on their head as a sign of respect, which Vell decided to follow. He had a skin-scribe tattoo him with runes that spelled the name of his Jedi Master, Lulad, in his ancestor's language. When Lulad learned what he had done, he expected her to make him remove the tattoos, but she instead had the skin-scribe give her a tattoo of her own with runes spelling Vell's name, as she believed a Jedi Master's greatest lessons came from those they taught.[1]

After Lulad's death[1] in 230 BBY[3] Jedi Master Kelnacca took over Vell's training.[1] In 227 BBY,[3] when Kelnacca saw Vell looking at a hologram of Lulad, he noticed their similar tattoos, causing Vell to explain his home planet's tradition to him. Later, after Vell was knighted, Kelnacca also followed the planet's tradition and had Vell's name tattooed on his head.[1] Around 149 BBY,[4] when Vell was dying, he told his own Padawan, Ordea, about his homeworld and its tradition.[1]
