The Virgillia system was an Outer Rim Territories star system located in the Koradin sector. Its government, which was backed by the Galactic Empire, and the Rebel Alliance–allied Virgillian Free Alignment fought a bitter civil war during the larger Galactic Civil War. The Free Alignment emerged victorious in the former conflict, and the Virgillia system became a member of the New Republic and later a supporter of the Resistance.
Description
The Virgillia system was a part of the Koradin sector[1] in the Outer Rim Territories[1] and the Western Reaches.[2] It was located in grid square I-18 of the Standard Galactic Grid,[1] and the Lipsec Run[3] hyperspace route connected it to the Lipsec and Shuraden systems.[5]
History
The Virgillia system shared its name with the Free Virgillia-class Bunkerbuster.
During the Galactic Civil War, the government of the Virgillia system was backed by the Galactic Empire. In turn, the organization known as the Virgillian Free Alignment was among the early allies of the Rebel Alliance, the Empire's enemy. The two Virgillian factions fought a bitter civil war in which the Free Alignment ultimately prevailed.[4]
The star system became a member of the Empire's successor, the New Republic, and subsequently came to be one of the strongest supporters of the Resistance.[4] By 34 ABY,[6] the Free Virgillia-class Bunkerbuster, a type of corvette manufactured by the Corellian Engineering Corporation[4] and armed with Virgillian-designed heavy plasma bombs[7] and of which the Resistance vessel Ninka was one example, shared its name with the Virgillia system.[4]
Behind the scenes
The Virgillia system was introduced in the current Star Wars canon in Star Wars: The Force Awakens Beginner Game.
The Virgillia system was first mentioned in the current Star Wars canon on a galactic map in Star Wars: The Force Awakens Beginner Game, a 2016 Fantasy Flight Games' Star Wars Roleplaying boxed set.[8] 2017's Star Wars: The Last Jedi: Incredible Cross-Sections, written by Jason Fry as part of the Incredible Cross-Sections reference book series, was the first source to identify Virgillia as a star system.[9]
The Virgillia system was originally introduced in the Star Wars Legends continuity, where it was first mentioned in The Truce at Bakura Sourcebook, a 1996 sourcebook published for West End Games' Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game.[10] The system subsequently made its first appearance in The Clone Wars: Act on Instinct, a webcomic authored by Pablo Hidalgo and released on StarWars.com[11] over the span of the 2009[12]–2010[13] second season of the animated television series Star Wars: The Clone Wars.[12]

(In response to: Hi @jasoncfry.bsky.social, was hoping you could confirm for Wookieepedia purposes that the hyperspace routes depicted on the Galaxy Map given out at Celebration are intended to be the same routes as in Legends. Sorry to bother, but would make our lives much easier to have it confirmed!)" (screenshot).
