Biography

Searching for treasure

Fox-Ear was the humanoid leader of a pirate gang.[1] At some point during or after 18 BBY,[3] the pirates operated on Tatooine in search of a treasure they claimed was stolen from them by the smugglers Bennet Sten and Myler Sten. The pirates recruited the local human child Sola to search for the location of the Stens, claiming the job was to only retrieve what was stolen. Sola questioned individuals across the city of Mos Eisley with a holopuck featuring the Stens and their droid. Sola eventually followed the bear-droid BILY back to his home he shared with the son of the Stens, Yuko. Sola then spotted the unique droid seen in the hologram.[1]

Sola returned to the pirates with the information and Fox-Ear questioned Sola on if they had discovered the Sten hideout as well. The child assured Fox-Ear that they had found it and tossed a memory chip to him. The pirate caught the chip and laughed as he ordered the pirates Gura and Riku to prepare for an attack. Gura whimpered and a confused Sola confronted them on their claim the job was only to retrieve the stolen treasure. Riku interrupted Sola and informed them that the pirates would be taking everything as payback. Fox-Ear rose from his chair and walked to the cockpit of the ship, stating they were leaving immediately. As the pirates prepared, Sola left the ship to warn BILY and Yuko.[1]

Child of the Stens

Following Sola close behind over the[1] Jundland Wastes,[2] the pirate starship eventually arrived at the home, raining bursts of lasers at the property. After BILY pulled Sola inside, the starship landed and Fox-Ear's pirates blew open the door to the kitchen, knocking out the lights and sending the residents across the room. Fox-Ear stepped forward and looked at decorations hanging from the ceiling before focusing his sight on BILY holding Yuko. Not seeing Bennet and Myler, Fox-Ear stared down at Gura and asked if this was the correct house. Gura affirmed the location was accurate.[1]

Yuko yelled at the pirates, questioning what they were doing. Fox-Ear then stated he had no business with BILY and Yuko, instead asking where Yuko's parents were. He claimed they had stolen something valuable from him and he was there to retrieve it with interest. BILY spoke up and claimed the Stens had both gotten sick and died. The pirate didn't believe BILY and grabbed him by his fur, claiming he could see right through the lie despite being in hiding. Fox-Ear demanded BILY revealed the location of his stolen treasure. After once again refusing the pirate's commands, Fox-Ear grabbed Yuko by the collar of his shirt and threatened him.[1]

Sola ran from across the room and jumped to snatch Yuko from Fox-Ear's grasp. Riku and Gura fired their blasters at the children as the door shut behind them. BILY attempted to run at the pirates and begged them to stop before getting shot by Riku's blaster. Fox-Ear called BILY a nuisance and told the pirates to bring the bear to the ship with the intent to reprogram him. Riku asked Fox-Ear what to do about the kids, and was told to burn them with the house. Pleading, BILY sat up and told the pirates that he'd take them to the treasure if they didn't hurt Yuko. Fox-Ear grinned and chuckled at BILY and took the droid before boarding the ship and taking off.[1]

The vault

Arriving at a crevice in a rock wall of[1] the Jundland Wastes,[2] the pirates landed their starship and entered. Fox-Ear and his underlings proceeded with a tied-up BILY through a mineshaft until they eventually reached a large cavern with a vault surrounded by large[1] teeth[2] sticking out of the ground.[1] The group of pirates gasped and Fox-Ear asked to himself what the location was. Fox-Ear approached the vault and activated a panel with a hand-print security measure. BILY spoke up and claimed the door would not open, and that ahead only lied a grave. The droid continued to claim that the treasure did not exist, leaving the other pirates confused.[1]

BILY asked if Fox-Ear was satisfied, and after asking the pirates to leave him and Yuko alone, the pirate shot the droid with a stun blast. The shock also stunned Gura, as they were holding the rope BILY was tied in. Stepping forward, Fox-Ear said that BILY thought he was so clever and told Riku to retrieve Yuko from his house. Riku asked if Fox-Ear planned to use Yuko to open the door and the pirate raised his arm and asked in return why she wasn't doing it already if she knew what he wanted. Riku quickly grabbed hold of a still-dazed Gura and ran off as Fox-Ear's other underlings followed behind. Two underlings stayed behind with a powered crate and Fox-Ear approached them chuckling. While the others were away, Fox-Ear modified BILY into Darth Bear, forcing the droid to follow his commands.[1]

Sly fox

As Fox-Ear waited on his crew to return with Yuko, the cave began to rumble and pebbles fell from the ceiling. He asked to himself what was happening and a large greater krayt dragon barreled through the wall with his crew along with Sola, Yuko, and his droid—who had snuck in behind the pirates. The krayt dragon fell off a ledge into a deep pit as the other fell into a pile before Fox-Ear, who was still standing. Fox-Ear congratulated them on finally arriving and told them he had been waiting for them. Yuko rose from the pile and demanded BILY be returned to him. Chuckling, Fox-Ear granted his wish and stepped aside to reveal BILY's new form as Darth Bear and told the droid to stand up for their reunion.[1]

Darth Bear stood up and Yuko ran towards him, only to be attacked by the droid picking up and smashing a boulder in front of the child. Fox-Ear laughed[1] maliciously[2] and informed Yuko of the changes the pirate made to BILY. As the droid chased and attacked Yuko, Fox-Ear expressed his frustration at Darth Bear's unwillingness to open the vault despite their reprogramming efforts. Watching the droid chase Yuko, Fox-Ear offered to change Darth Bear back into BILY if the child opened the door for the pirates. Receiving encouragement from Sola, Yuko ran to the panel on the vault and opened it with his hand print.[1]

Plot foiled

The pirate crew ran to the door past Yuko. Fox-Ear walked close behind them and dismissed Yuko, having lied about wanting to fix BILY. The pirate walked up behind his confused crew and told them to start loading the treasure before realizing that there was nothing but a single Batuuan Spira. Enraged, Fox-Ear yelled that he was being mocked and threw the measly chip on the floor. The cave began to rumble as the krayt dragon climbed back into the cavern and stared at the pirates. The group screamed and Fox-Ear hurriedly yelled for the group to retreat back to the ship. The krayt dragon shifted its focus to Darth Bear and the children while the pirates took the opportunity to escape.[1]

The children called out to the pirates but Fox-Ear exclaimed the pirates weren't stupid enough to wait for them and kept running. In response, Sola threw a cane with Yuko's droid attached and nailed Fox-Ear's cape to the ground. Stuck, the pirate called to his crew and demanded they help him. As Riku and Gura attempted to release the cape, Yuko's droid released a series of sound waves that stunned the crew. The krayt dragon was drawn to the noise and turned its attention back to the pirates, accidentally knocking BILY's helmet off, freeing him from Fox-Ear's control. The dragon then barreled through Fox-Ear and his pirates, sending the entire group plummeting to the bottom of the chasm.[1]

Personality and traits

Fox-Ear was a pirate captain with a[1] malicious[4] laughter. He was willing to go far to receive what he desired, including destroying a home, and showing complete disregard for children, threatening them, and willing to order his underlings to burn Sola and Yuko with the latter's house. When chased by the krayt dragon, he was also fine with leaving them behind to make his escape. As a pirate, Fox-Ear was a liar, and became angered when others lied back to him. He had light skin and brown eyes. He showed frustration when his reprogramming efforts were not enough for BILY to open the vault. Upon seeing the vault was empty save for a single Batuuan Spira, he believed the Stens were mocking him and threw the coin to the ground out of anger.[1]
