- [Tooka meows]
"Oh, let's go home and get you some channelfish kibble and a bowl of bantha milk." - ―The tooka and her Talpiddian owner
A tooka lived on the Outer Rim planet Tenoo with her Talpiddian owner during the High Republic Era. Around 232 BBY, the tooka became stuck on the crown of a Tenoo tree, leading three Jedi younglings—Kai Brightstar, Nubs, and Lys Solay—and the Dowutin Ansen Strung to climb the tree to rescue her.
After the Jedi reached the cat, she jumped down onto a branch, which broke and sent her falling through the air. Strung then caught the cat using his jet-boots, safely returning her to the Talpiddian. Once the tooka was back with her owner, they returned home to get some channelfish kibble with a bowl of bantha milk.
Biography
- "Hello there, little friend."
- ―Lys Solay, to the tooka
A tooka cat lived during the High Republic Era and[1] by around 232 BBY,[3] was owned by a Talpiddian who lived in a home on[1] the Outer Rim planet[4] Tenoo.[1] Around that year,[3] the tooka became stuck on[1] the crown of[2] a Tenoo tree, high off of the ground. In response, the Jedi younglings Kai Brightstar, Nubs, and Lys Solay, alongside the Dowutin creature tracker Ansen Strung, attempted to rescue her.[1]
The tooka was caught by Ansen Strung as she fell through the air
As the four climbed up the tree, the Talpiddian watched and was worried for their "sweetie." After the Jedi reached the crown, they moved towards the tooka, who began to back up while meowing, with the Talpiddian calling for her to be careful and come down, adding that it was okay. Solay reached out[1] her[4] hand to the tooka, who instead jumped down to a branch below, which began to sway, eventually breaking and sending the cat falling down. As the tooka fell and yowled, Strung activated his jet-boots and swooped down to catch her in mid-air.[1]
While the Dowutin made his way to the ground with the tooka, the younglings praised him for catching the tooka, and the Talpiddian rushed over to Strung and thanked him for rescuing her. The Dowutin then stroked the cat on top of her head, and she rested her head against his while purring and meowing. Afterward, the tooka hopped from Strung's hands to her owner, who was pleased to have the cat back safely and the two nuzzled together. As the Talpiddian stated they would go home to get the tooka some channelfish kibble with a bowl of bantha milk, they began to walk away, with the three Jedi younglings saying goodbye.[1]
Personality and traits
- "Oh, my poor sweetie."
- ―The Talpiddian, on the tooka
The tooka had light cyan fur with darker cyan markings, black eyes, and dark gray skin.[1] It[2] also had fluffy ears. When approached by the Jedi younglings trying to rescue her, the cat was skittish and jumped away. The tooka was affectionate to her owner, which she showed after being returned to them after being rescued.[1]
Behind the scenes
Concept art by Betsy Bauer of the tooka's model
The tooka appeared in "The Bounty Hunter and the Thief," the second part of the twenty-second episode in the second season of the animated television series Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures,[1] which aired on March 19, 2025.[5] A tooka with the same animation model appears in the introduction of all episodes within both the first and second seasons.[6] The model also appeared in "Lys' Creature Caper,"[7] the second short in the series' first season, which released on the Disney Junior YouTube channel on March 27, 2023, as well as "Lys' Lost Lightsaber"—the second part of the second season's tenth episode[8]—which aired on August 14, 2024.[9] The artist Betsy Bauer designed the model—including its coat pattern—for the tooka.[10][11]
