The astromech droid and Shogun walking away from the Ronin
An astromech droid accompanied the Jedi known as Shogun as they traveled on[1] Mount Hakamori,[2] a snowy mountain on an astronomical object. At one point, they witnessed a group of bandits attempting to steal the astromech droid[1] R5-D56[3] from[1] the former Sith[3] known as the Ronin as he crossed a gap in the mountain. Shogun told their droid they should leave to avoid being struck by a stray blaster bolt, and the two continued on their way.[1]
At night, by which time the droid had removed the hat it had been wearing, it and Shogun arrived at a hot spring on the mountain, where they saw the Ronin and R5-D56 already bathing. Shogun handed their cane to their droid to hold with a limb atop its dome, then disrobed and took their cane back to enter the spring. While Shogun and the Ronin drank sake together, the astromech droid joined R5-D56 in another section of the hot spring and watched as the other droid gambled with a group of Ewoks.[1]
In the morning, the astromech droid accompanied Shogun as they left the pool and walked with the Ronin. After the Ronin declined Shogun's offer of a drink at a station on the mountain, he revealed he was aware of Shogun's identity as a Jedi, but Shogun informed him they did not intend to kill him and began walking away with their droid. As they did, the astromech droid supported Shogun's cane with its limb while the Jedi held it out in front of them. The astromech droid then used another limb to wave goodbye to R5-D56, who waved back as they parted ways.[1]
Characteristics
The astromech droid had a larger blue sensor and two smaller sensors that were green and red. It had a limb with two digits on top of its dome[1] and two on the sides of its body.[2] It waved to R5-D56 while parting ways with it.[1]
Equipment
The astromech droid wore a circular hat and snowshoes tied to the bottom of its legs. It wore a box on its back that was tied around its body with a cloth and another box strapped to its front.[1]
Behind the scenes
The astromech droid appeared in the non-canon one-shot comic Visions 1, written and illustrated by Takashi Okazaki and published by Marvel Comics[1] on October 12, 2022.[4] Prior to the comic's release, it was first pictured in a StarWars.com article published on June 15 of that year. The article included concept art by Okazaki depicting the droid holding a bowl for takuhatsu,[2] a practice in Buddhism in which monks receive alms from lay people.[5]
