- "There's a nice casino on the other side of the mountain. Would love to take you there…but unfortunately it's closed because of a hassle."
- ―Shogun, to the Ronin
Mount Hakamori was a snowy mountain located on an astronomical object. The former Sith known as the Ronin at one point trekked through it and was attacked by bandits who attempted to steal his astromech droid R5-D56. However, the two instead killed all but one of the bandits. At night, the Ronin met the Jedi known as Shogun in a secret hot spring on the mountain. The two drank sake while discussing their experiences fighting in the Sith rebellion and Shogun's search for the Temple of Elujoji. In the morning, they left the hot spring together, and before they parted ways, the Ronin asked Shogun if they had forgotten to kill him. The Ronin then saw a vision of Shogun defeating him in a duel, but Shogun stated they did not intend to kill him, and the two peacefully walked away in opposite directions.
Description
- "It is said that this secret hot spring was made to heal the battle wounds of the knights."
- ―Shogun, to the Ronin
An area with small snow-covered statues on Mount Hakamori
Mount Hakamori[2] was a snowy mountain located on an astronomical object. At one location on the mountain, a fallen AT-AT walker lay across a deep gap. Mount Hakamori was also the site of a secret hot spring, which was said to have been made to heal the battle wounds of Jedi knights. The spring was divided into two sections, and two smaller structures as well as trees and several poles with red lights were located around it. A casino was located on the other side of the mountain from the hot spring, and a station was situated below it. Another area on Mount Hakamori had a tree, stacks of stones, a tattered flag, small snow-covered statues, and sticks stuck into the ground.[1]
History
- "This might be the beginning of something. Why not go for another drink at the station below? It's on me."
- ―Shogun, to the Ronin
The Ronin and R5-D56 killed bandits who attacked them on the mountain.
At one point,[1] the former Sith[3] known as the Ronin and his astromech droid[1] R5-D56[3] trekked across Mount Hakamori and used the leg of the fallen AT-AT as a bridge to cross the gap in the mountain. As they did, a group of bandits surrounded them and attempted to steal R5-D56 while threatening the Ronin. The Jedi known as Shogun and their astromech droid witnessed the confrontation from afar and left the area to avoid being struck by a stray blaster bolt. The bandits' leader commanded them to attack, but the Ronin deflected their blaster bolts with his lightsaber, and R5-D56 fired missiles at them, killing all but one.[1]
That night, the Ronin and R5-D56 bathed in Mount Hakamori's secret hot spring and were joined by Shogun, who was pleasantly surprised to see others at the spring, and their droid. The Ronin shared his sake with Shogun, who informed the Ronin of the purpose of the spring's creation. As the two drank, they discussed their experiences fighting in[1] the Sith rebellion, a war that had been fought between the Jedi clans and the Sith[4] years earlier.[5] Shogun also mentioned they were searching for the Temple of Elujoji, and the Ronin informed them of what he knew about it, although he was unaware of how to locate it. While they spoke, R5-D56 gambled with a group of Ewoks. Shogun told the Ronin they would have liked to take him to the casino, but that it was closed due to a hassle.[1]
Mount Hakamori's secret hot spring
When the sun rose in the morning, the Ronin, Shogun, and the two droids left the hot spring together. After walking across Mount Hakamori for some distance, Shogun offered to buy a drink for the Ronin at the station below, but he declined the offer and stated someone was picking him up. Upon arriving at the area with small statues, the Ronin and Shogun began to part ways, but the Ronin then revealed he was aware Shogun was a Jedi and asked if they had forgotten to kill him. The Ronin then had a vision of the Jedi quickly defeating him in a duel. After their vision ended, Shogun stated they had forgotten nothing and walked away without attacking. The Ronin and R5-D56 then continued across the mountain in the opposite direction.[1]
Behind the scenes
Concept art by Okazaki
Mount Hakamori appeared in the non-canon comic Visions 1, written and illustrated by Takashi Okazaki and published by Marvel Comics[1] on October 12, 2022.[6] Before the release of the comic, a StarWars.com article published on June 15 of that year revealed concept art of the mountain by Okazaki. In the concept art, the mountain's name was written on a sign in Japanese as "墓守ヶ岳".[2] In Japanese, "墓守" (hakamori) means "grave maintenance," or "gravekeeper,"[7] "ヶ" (ga) is a possessive particle in toponyms,[8] and "岳" (take) is a suffix used for names of high mountains.[9] Both the sign and a v-150 Planet Defender[2] ion cannon[10] also depicted in the concept art[2] were not included in the final comic.[1]
