"Halt there. What do you want? Walking junk?"
―The Nihil, to C-06N[2]

A Weequay served as a guard for the Nihil marauder group during the High Republic Era. In 228 BBY, the Weequay stood on patrol alongside a shorter Nihil outside a warehouse in a lommite processing plant on the planet Eriadu, which was retrofitted for the Nihil to be used as a scav droid workshop. While the planet was in a war, the Republic Defense Coalition member Lieutenant Ebbe Casset, along with the protocol droid C-06N, encountered the duo at the plant when investigating the source of the scav droids. After being used as bait, C-06N approached the two and began to converse to them in hopes they would open the door to the warehouse behind them.

During the brief interrogation, C-06N then identified the Nihil to be a Weequay and began to blather to the guard about slime midges, and how the person who sent him would use them to kill the guard for failure if the scav droids did not succeed in the ground assault on the planet. Embarrassed about the facts of the midges, the Nihil agreed to let the droid into the warehouse and began to unlock the door. As he and his compatriot opened the entrance, Casset jumped out of a pile of steel and surprised the two before firing her blaster at the duo, which killed them.

Biography

"That was probably less painful than death by slime midges."
―Ebbe Casset to C-06N, after shooting the Nihil[2]

During the High Republic Era, a Weequay worked for the Nihil marauder organization as a guard.[2] In 228 BBY,[1] the Weequay was present during the Battle of Eriadu on the planet Eriadu, which was fought between the Galactic Republic and the Nihil, During the battle, the Weequay stood on guard at a lommite processing plant, being used to construct scav droids for the organization, alongside another shorter Nihil then him. While on guard, the Weequay and the his acquaintance disturbed a Cosian mechanic who was present inside the building working on the droids, who informed them to leave so he may continue to toil on time. Later on,[2] Lieutenant[3] Ebbe Casset of the Republic Defense Coalition (RDC), accompanied by the protocol droid C-06N whom she met while traversing, progressed to the plant after Casset believed the location housed the origin of the scav droids once checking a chart of the battleground and witnessing minimal bombardment near the plant. Once inside, Casset heard the two guards conversing with one another and took cover behind a pile of Transparisteel.[2]

As she observed the Weequay and his ally making conversation, a small argument arose between Casset and C-06N, who informed the droid to approach the Weequay and request he was there for spare parts, along with having him unlock the door. Refusing to be used as a decoy, Casset bribed the droid with his eye, which he lost earlier in battle. C-06N then neared the Nihil, who both raised their blasters at the sight of the protocol droid. The Weequay then queried to the droid what he wanted before referring to him as standing junk. Acknowledging this, C-06N confirmed being junk and informed them he was issued to arrive and seek use for being repaired. The Weequay further questioned who had sent C-06N, which made the droid hesitant to speak to ponder an answer. Not responding, the shorter Nihil barked for the droid to mention who had requested he arrive or they would utilize C-06N for blaster practice. The Weequay followed up on his guard's comment by stating how they used numerous RDC members for target practice the previous day, along with seven he murdered earlier in the day, furthermore wishing it would have been seventy. Hearing the response, Casset imagined her fist around the Weequay after squeezing it in anger at what he spoke.[2]

C-06N then replied to the question by acknowledging he had arrived after a satellite ship owned by General Abediah Viess of the Nihil issued the droid to the plant. The droid continued with the fib by explaining Viess, who was heavily disappointed, sought severe repercussions from the ground troops if the scav droids are unsuccessful at their job. C-06N carried on by stating she had a primordial execution planned for whoever failed, before curiously asking if the Weequay was of the species. Uneasy at the question, the Weequay confirmed the statement to be true before the droid informed him about slime midges being spoken by the general. The shorter Nihil, unaware what they were, asked C-06N about the creatures, which was elaborated on by the droid. As he rambled about how the midges burrowed into Weequay skin and feasted on it, the Weequay interrupted and allowed the droid to pass.[2]

Casset, who was in disbelief, watched as the shorter Nihil stood back from their associate in fear they were infected before the two opened the door for the droid. While in the middle of the task, Casset appeared from behind the rumble, which alerted the Nihil, and killed them with her blasters before they could make a move on her. Casset then spoke to C-06N about how the Weequay's death was presumably not as agonizing as the slime midges way, before applauding the droid's assignment. C-06N then informed Casset about how he learned of slime midges before the two entered the plant.[2]

Personality and traits

"Speak up or we'll use you for target practice."
"Like we did with those RDC yesterday. And like the seven I killed this morning. Would have preferred it had been seventy."
―The shorter Nihil and the Weequay Nihil, to C-06N[2]

The Weequay was tall, wide shouldered, and spoke roughly to his lower peer while stationed outside of the plant. After encountering and killing RDC members, the Weequay had little remorse for his handiwork and conveyed that to C-06N, which led an eavesdropping Casset to be angered at his actions. The Weequay was rude when speaking to C-06N, but became uncomfortable when the droid released facts about slime midges to the Nihil after registering he was a Weequay, which led the guard to hastily allow the droid access to the plant.[2]

Equipment

The Weequay wore armor along his body, including plates atop his skin and a helmet which had the Eye of the Nihil insignia painted sloppily on the side. The guard also wielded a blaster.[2]

Behind the scenes

The Weequay appeared in the short story "Tales from the Occlusion Zone: Out with a Bang," written by Lydia Kang as part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's[2] Phase III.[4] The story was published in the 231st issue of the magazine Star Wars Insider as the eighth installment in the Tales from the Occlusion Zone serialized fiction on April 29, 2025.[5]
