The Saltear system was situated in the Outer Rim Territories' Tarabba sector and contained the moon of Saltear. At one point between 230 BBY and 229 BBY, Jedi Knights Bell Zettifar and Burryaga Agaburry protected a settlement on the moon of Saltear against the Nihil marauders. In 228 BBY, the system became a part of the Nihil-controlled area of space known as the Occlusion Zone.

Description

The Saltear system was located in the Tarabba sector[3] of the Outer Rim Territories[1] and Western Reaches[2] in grid square M-19 of the Standard Galactic Grid.[1] It contained the terrestrial moon of Saltear.[4]

History

The Saltear system became enveloped in the Occlusion Zone.

The Saltear system became enveloped in the Occlusion Zone.

In 230 BBY, the Nihil marauders formed the Occlusion Zone—an area of space situated behind the Stormwall barrier that prevented hyperspace travel to and from the rest of the Galactic Republic's territory.[5] At some point between that event and[4] 229 BBY,[6] the human[7] and Wookiee Jedi Knights Bell Zettifar and Burryaga Agaburry protected a settlement on the moon of Saltear from the Nihil.[4]

In 228 BBY,[8] the Stormwall, and thereby the Occlusion Zone, was expanded,[9] and as a result, the Saltear system became situated within the Nihil territory.[1] Later that same year,[10] the Nihil surrendered to the Republic following the Stormwall's fall, which dissolved the Occlusion Zone as a territory. Locations in the former Occlusion Zone were welcomed back into the Republic if they wished to rejoin. Some of them, however, opted to retain their independence, while others remained under the control of individual Nihil warlords.[11]

Behind the scenes

The Saltear system was first mentioned in Pablo Hidalgo's 2025 reference book Star Wars: The Acolyte: The Visual Guide on a galaxy map authored by Jason Fry and Christopher Ibbitt.[1] The October 14, 2025 update to[12] "Star Systems of the Galaxy," an appendix published with the Star Wars Galaxy Map on StarWars.com[3] on June 24 of the same year—with both works being authored by Fry[13]—subsequently identified the system by name.[3]

  8. Star Wars: Timelines dates Starlight Beacon's destruction to 230 BBY. The implementation of the Guardian Protocols, which Star Wars: The High Republic Character Encyclopedia places in 229 BBY, took place one week after Starlight Beacon's fall according to The High Republic – Shadows of Starlight 1. As The High Republic Adventures (2023) 4 takes place one year and two weeks after the destruction of Starlight Beacon, it must be set in 228 BBY. Since the events of The High Republic Adventures (2023) 6 are set immediately following the fourth issue and depict the expansion of the Stormwall, the events in The High Republic: The Eye of Darkness following the expansion must take place in the same year.
