Burryaga Agaburry,[2] known as Tall Friend to the charhound Ember,[7] was a male Wookiee Jedi Knight[9] of the Jedi Order who was active during the High Republic Era. The apprentice of Jedi Master Nib Assek, his master learned Shyriiwook so she could communicate with him.[2]
Biography
Early life
The parents of Burryaga Agaburry
When Burryaga Agaburry was very young, he was afraid to climb the trees of his homeworld. His parents encouraged the young Wookiee to persevere as they climbed with him, teaching him a valuable lesson on bravery.[5]
Padawan of the Jedi Order
Burryaga joined the Jedi Order and became the Padawan of Jedi Master Nib Assek. In 232 BBY,[10] Agaburry and his master participated in the rescue effort to save the Hetzal system during the Great Hyperspace Disaster. He was the one who discovered that several of the hyperspace anomalies bearing down on the worlds of the system were starship fragments with people still alive onboard. While Jedi pilots attempted to destroy the starship fragments, Burryaga felt the survivors' terror so deeply that it radiated through the Jedi Force network. Facing a language barrier, the other Jedi believed that they were feeling Burryaga's own emotions and initially attempted to remove him from the network. Burryaga's efforts ultimately made the other Jedi realize that the starship fragments had survivors aboard.[2]
A year after the Great Hyperspace Disaster Burryaga and his master Nib Assek attend the Republic Fair on Valo. During the Nihil attack on the fair, Burryaga helped where he could.[8]
Burryaga and Nib went to Kashyyyk for Life Day and fought Drengir that had been dormant there.[11]
Burryaga was present on Starlight Beacon while Jedi Master Torban Buck was baking sweet story custard cake.[12]
Burryaga as a Jedi Padawan
Burryaga was on Starlight Beacon when the Nihil sabotaged the station. He became trapped on the bottom half of Starlight Beacon and later discovered, with his friend, Bell Zettifar, the body of his master, Nib Assek, who was attacked by a Nameless. During the evacuation of the lower half of Starlight, Burryaga went missing while fighting a rathtar and was proclaimed dead,[13] though he had actually survived.[14] Bell felt sure that his friend had survived and resolved to find him.[13] Bell remained on the planet of Eiram and mounted a search for many weeks, eventually finding Burryaga trapped in an underwater cave.[15]
Jedi Knight
Two months after the fall of Starlight Beacon, Burryaga and Bell arrived at the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, where they were greeted by the charhound Ember and Bell's master, Indeera Stokes. The two Padawans were then knighted.[16]
Four months after the fall, Burryaga checked in on Bell, who was looking into the leader of the Nihil, Marchion Ro, whom Bell said was responsible for the deaths of both Jedi's masters. Five months after the fall, Burryaga spoke with Jedi Council member Pra-Tre Veter about Burryaga's concern for Bell. Veter believed that Bell needed a task to put his energy into. He would bring Bell into a task force to fight the Nihil on the borders of the Occlusion Zone. Veter invited Burryaga to join as well, but Burryaga did not accept. Six months after the fall, Burryaga was drawing along with some Jedi younglings. He drew a picture of Bell looking angry. He went to a landing pad where Bell and Master Veter were leaving to join the task force, deciding to go with them.[16]
Nine months after the fall, Burryaga attended a meeting aboard the Emissary-class Cruiser Third Horizon led by Admiral Pevel Kronara, regarding a Nihil attack on a settlement on Asternin. Kronara asked the Jedi to deliver aid to the planet. Veter, Bell, and Burryaga met with the settlement's mayor, but they were spotted by Nihil scouts. A Nihil Stormship, the Cacophony, destroyed the ship the Jedi had used and activated its 47 lightsaber nullifier, deactivating the Jedi's weapons. On Veter's insistence, Burryaga and Bell rounded up the townspeople and fled while the Grand Master fought the Nihil.[16]
Personality and traits
Burryaga disliked social gatherings due to the fact that most people could not understand him. However, when he was onboard the Galactic Republic medical frigate Panacea with the many patients from the Legacy Run, he was able to help comfort the human boy Serj Ukkarian.[2]
Powers and abilities
Burryaga had exceptional empathic abilities. He was capable of piloting a Jedi Vector.[2]
Equipment
Burryaga wielded a blue-bladed lightsaber with a physical crossguard on the hilt.[2]
Behind the scenes
Concept art of Burryaga Agaburry
Burryaga Agaburry was created for the Star Wars: The High Republic publishing project. He appeared in the 2021 novel The High Republic: Light of the Jedi by Charles Soule,[2] who also named the character. Soule revealed he chose the name in large part because he found "Burryaga Agaburry" fun to say.[17] He is described as a "very sensitive Jedi" and wields a blue crossguard lightsaber, with the crossguard design being inspired by Arthurian myths, such as the sword Excalibur.[18]

It's fun to say.
(Star Wars is, among other things, very fun.)" (backup link) - ↑
