Rebel Force: Hostage is the second installment of the Star Wars: Rebel Force series. It is a young-reader novel written by Alex Wheeler and released in January 2009.

Publisher's summary

The deadly assassin contracted by the Empire, X-7, is closer than ever to discovering the identity of his target. He's already infiltrated the top levels of the Rebel Alliance and gained Leia's trust. But he still hasn't been able to get Leia to give up the classified information he needs.

After all, Leia Organa is unbreakable: the youngest, toughest member of the Galactic Senate, and after its dissolution, the fiercest opponent of the Empire. She's survived kidnapping and torture under Darth Vader, but she's never had to do anything more difficult than her latest mission. She is going home.

And X-7 knows it will be the perfect opportunity to destroy her.

Plot summary

Princess Leia makes a difficult journey to Delaya, sister world of Alderaan and home to many Alderaanians who were offplanet when Alderaan was destroyed and now find themselves refugees without a homeworld. She is shocked to discover the appalling overcrowded conditions faced by the refugees, as well as the outward hostility some of them show her. One woman, Halle Dray, feels the Organa house invited Imperial reprisal upon their world due to its involvement with the Rebel Alliance. Working with the Delayan government, Dray arranges for Leia's capture and handover to the Empire. Luke, Han, and a friend of the Organa family, Fess Ilee, work together to rescue her. Fess is in reality Ferus Olin, a Jedi who has watched over Leia since her infancy. X-7, still posing as Tobin Elad, frees Leia, but surreptitiously doses her with truth serum that allows him to confirm the identity of the Rebel who destroyed the Death Star: Luke Skwalker.

Continuity

At one point in this story, Han recalled Obi-Wan's quote regarding Alderaan's destruction, though he was not present to hear it said in Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. This story remarked the reappearance of Ferus Olin, featured hero of the Last of the Jedi series.[2]
