The Malastare system was a star system located in the Dustig sector of the galaxy's Mid Rim. It contained the planet Malastare, homeworld of the Dug species.[1]
Sometime before the Clone Wars, a corporate fleet under the command of Harch Admiral Trench blockaded Malastare. However, the blockade was later broken by a Galactic Republic task force commanded by Jedi Master Kep-She and Wullf Yularen. Later, during the second year of the war, the Confederacy of Independent Systems invaded Malastare in order to claim the planet's Malastarian fuel reserves to feed their navy. Despite their efforts, the Separatists were prevented from claiming the planet with the detonation of the Republic's electro-proton bomb, which deactivated the entire droid army.
Description
The Malastare system was a star system located in the Dustig sector of the galaxy's Mid Rim,[1] at grid square N-16 on the Standard Galactic Grid.[3] It contained the planet Malastare, the homeworld of the Dug species,[1] which orbited the system's star of Striar.[4] The Malastare system was also situated along the Hydian Way hyperspace routes.[3]
History
Corporate blockade of Malastare
- "A corporate fleet was blockading Malastare, a fleet led by Trench."
- ―Wullf Yularen
Sometime before the outbreak of the Clone Wars, a corporate fleet under the command of Harch Admiral Trench had blockaded the planet Malastare. However, the blockade was later attacked and broken by a Galactic Republic task force commanded by Jedi Master Kep-She and Wullf Yularen. By the end of the battle, Trench's flagship was destroyed by the Republic forces, and Trench was believed to have been vaporized as a result.[5]
Separatist invasion of Malastare
Republic and Separatist forces engage one another on Malastare.
Later, during the Clone Wars in 21 BBY,[6] after a period of prolonged fighting, the Confederacy of Independent Systems was on the verge of capturing Malastare, which would give them access to the planet's reserves of Malastarian fuel to feed their navy. In response, the Republic forces battling the Separatist Droid Army on the surface was granted the use of the electro-proton bomb to deactivate the Separatist forces. As the large droid army approached the Dug palace, a BTL-B Y-wing starfighter/bomber alongside several escorting fighters exited from the palace hangars and dropped the bomb in the center of the droid forces, deactivating all droids and preventing the Confederacy from claiming the planet.[7]
Behind the scenes
The Malastare system first appeared in the new Star Wars canon in "The Zillo Beast,"[7] the eighteenth episode of the second season of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars television series, which aired on April 9, 2010.[8] It was later identified in the 2015 reference book Ultimate Star Wars, which was published by Dorling Kindersley.[1] The Malastare system was originally mentioned in the Star Wars Legends in The New Essential Guide to Alien Species, a 2006 reference book authored by Ann Margaret Lewis and Helen Keier.[9]
