- "This orange-skinned, four-eyed, horn-headed sentient species found themselves under attack from the government after the rise of the Galactic Empire, and many were forced to flee their homeworld."
- ―An entry on Leffingites in an artist's journal restored and expanded by the Graf Archive
Leffingites were a horned sentient species native to the Mid Rim astronomical object Almak. By 22 BBY, the Leffingite speeder thief Magaloof worked on the planet Coruscant and nearly collided with the Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi while joyriding. During the reign of the Galactic Empire, many Leffginites fled Almak after the species was attacked by the government.
Biology and appearance
Leffingites were a bipedal sentient species with orange skin and two arms ending in hands with four fingers and a thumb. A Leffingite's head consisted of a wide, toothy mouth below a broad, flat nose that ran up their face to finish between two sets of eyes, which could be brown[2] or blue.[1]
The higher pair of eyes was smaller and sat among the unevenly sized gray horns that emerged from the top of Leffingites' heads. The species had two long, flat ears that protruded from just below the horns on each side of the head.[2] The species was capable of speaking Galactic Basic Standard[3] and at least one member stood 1.4 meters tall.[1]
History
- "Like the petty criminal Magaloof, many found their way to Coruscant, where an Almakian apple pie dish has made its way onto the menu at Dex's Diner."
- ―An entry on Leffingites in an artist's journal restored and expanded by the Graf Archive
The Leffingite Magaloof worked as a speeder thief on Coruscant.
The Leffingite homeworld was Almak,[2] an astronomical object located in the Almak system of the Almak sector in the Mid Rim Territories.[4] During the reign of the Galactic Empire, the species came under attack by the government, and many were forced to flee Almak. A large number of Leffingites then found their way to Coruscant,[2] the capital of the Empire in the Core Worlds.[5]
An entry on Leffingites, including an image of a Leffingite in red robes, was included in an artist's journal, which was restored, expanded, and displayed at the Graf Archive[2] at some point no earlier than 34 ABY.[6]
Leffingites in the galaxy
- "What the?!"
- ―Magaloof
The Leffingite male Magaloof was born on Almak but had journeyed to Coruscant[1] by 22 BBY. That year,[8] he was working as a speeder thief and was joyriding in a stolen speeder[1] through one of the world's skylanes when he nearly collided with the Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi, who was hanging from the assassin droid ASN-121, near the Bonadan Embassy.[9] The author of the journal that mentioned Leffingites noted that a Leffingite had directed them to try Almakian desserts, including Almakian apple pie, at the eatery Dex's Diner on Coruscant.[2]
Behind the scenes
- "The name of Magaloof's species was inspired by Lee Leffingwell, who had recently been elected to the Austin, Texas City Council when this submission was written. For whatever reason, his name stuck in my head and ended up in the entry. I've always wondered if Council Member Leffingwell is aware of his fame."
- ―Gregory Walker
A Leffingite first appeared in the 2002 prequel trilogy film, Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones.[7] In the current Star Wars canon, the species was first identified in an entry for Magaloof on the StarWars.com Databank,[1] which had been published by February 8, 2016.[11]
The name originated in the Star Wars Legends continuity, where it was first used by Gregory Walker, writing as "NarbFlick,"[10] as part of the backstory for Magaloof,[12] submitted through the StarWars.com Hyperspace feature "What's The Story?". The entry was added to the website's original Databank on August 12, 2005.[13] Walker named the species for Lee Leffingwell, as the politician's name was stuck in Walker's head following Leffingwell's recent campaign and election to the Austin, Texas City Council in 2005.[10]
