- "Hey, you're with the Miyuki Trade League, right? You ever meet a guy named Jet Kordo? Ugnaught, good taste in jackets?"
- ―Kay Vess to Miyuki trader
Kay's jacket was a worn leather jacket owned by the Ugnaught smuggler Jet Kordo during the Imperial Era and later by the human thief Kay Vess in 3 ABY.
Description
Kay's jacket was a blue–grey jacket made primarily of satin leather with rough leather at the shoulders. The jacket had ribbed sections that ran down the outside of the sleeves from the shoulders to the cuffs and the inner lining of the jacket was made with tan color fur. The large collar featured two leather strips on the right side and a metal rectangle on the left. A metal circle with an inner tri-symmetric design and a rectangle at the top was attached to the upper-right chest of the jacket. On the back of the jacket, a horizontal leather strip ran though two metal straps attached at each side of the jacket. It fit the Ugnaught species and could be worn by the larger human species as a short cut jacket.[2] The jacket also included an inner pocket that could fit a small pair of electrobinoculars.[3]
History
The Ugnaught smuggler Jet Kordo owned the jacket by the time of the Galactic Empire. He later stored it and a pair of Saba macrobinoculars in a hidden compartment in the cockpit of the Trailblazer, his EML-850 light freighter. The jacket remained in the compartment of the ship when it was acquired by the Imperial Security Bureau director and crime lord Sliro Barsha and stored in his Westhill Palace on the planet Cantonica.[1] In 3 ABY,[4] the ship was stolen by the human thief Kay Vess while fleeing from a failed robbery of the Westhill Palace. After the ship recieved damage while escaping, Vess crash landed on the Outer Rim moon Toshara. While recovering from the crash she discovered the hidden compartment and took the stored jacket and the electrobinoculars.[1] Nix, Vess' merqaal companion left small scratches on the back of jacket from climbing up Vess' back.[2] Later that year,[4] Vess meet a merchant with the Miyuki Trade League, the same smuggling group that Kordo had worked with. During the exchange, Vess asked the merchant if they knew Kordo using his good taste in jackets as a qualifierm but the merchant did not know him.[1]
Behind the scenes
Kay's jacket first appeared in the 2024 video game Star Wars Outlaws, developed by Massive Entertainment and published by Ubisoft. The belt was first pictured in the game's "World Premiere Trailer" which was released in 2023.[5] Concept art for Vess' outfit was done by the Concept Artist Iuliia Misiul under Lead Concept Artist Marthe Jonkers and Art Director Gerard Miley.[6] The design of the jacket was inspited by inspired by Hollywood movie stars from the 1950s and was originally red, but was later changed when the team found it to be too stark and not suitable for a theif like Vess.[3]
