Kay's electrobinoculars[2] were pair of saba macrobinoculars owned by the thief Kay Vess.[1] They were an optical scouting tool which provided Vess with visual information on lifeforms from a distance using advanced sensors and imaging technologies.[3] In 3 ABY,[4] Vess stole an EML-850 light freighter known as the Trailblazer and crash landed on the moon Toshara while fleeing from a failed heist of Westhill Palace on the planet Cantonica. While recovering from the crash she discovered the hidden compartment in the ship's cockpit that included the binoculars and a leather jacket.[3]
Behind the scenes
Saba macrobinoculars appeared for the 2024 video game Star Wars Outlaws which was developed by Massive Entertainment and published by Ubisoft.[3] Prior to the game's release, the macrobinoculars appeared in a number of the game's trailers first appearing in the game's "World Premiere Trailer" which was released on June 8, 2023.[5] The binoculars were first identified as "Kay's electrobinoculars" in the 2025 reference book The Art of Star Wars: Outlaws. The book specified that the binoculars needed to be small enough to be carried inside Kay's jacket and that the design of them was inspired by brushed metal and rubber eyepieces of pocket cameras from the 1970s and 1980s.[2]
