Herglic Space was a sector of the galaxy located in the Colonies[1] and the Interior.[2] It contained the Kooda system and the Giju system, both of which were located in grid square L-13 of the Standard Galactic Grid.[1] The Giju system contained the planet Giju[6] and was part of the Giju Run,[3] Herglic Alley,[4] and Rimma Trade Route hyperspace routes.[5]

In 0 ABY,[7] three members of the Alliance to Restore the Republic's Red Squadron escorted a transport full of underground rebel leaders off Giju and through the Giju system, engaging a patrol of Imperial TIE fighters and its reinforcements before the transport and then the X-wings successfully departed the system.[6] Herglic Space shared its name[1] with the sentient Herglic species.[6]

Behind the scenes

In the current Star Wars canon, Herglic Space first appeared in the 2015 novel The Weapon of a Jedi: A Luke Skywalker Adventure, which was written by Jason Fry.[6] It was then depicted for the first time in the first part of the comic adaptation of the novel, which was written by Alec Worley, illustrated by Ruairí Coleman, and published in Star Wars Magazine 19[8] on March 29, 2017.[9] The sector was then identified in "Star Systems of the Galaxy," an appendix published with the Star Wars Galaxy Map article on StarWars.com[1] on June 24, 2025. Both were written by Fry.[10]

A small area of a galaxy map around a dot marking Giju is labeled as Herglic Space. A dot marking Fondor is located just outside the highlighted area.

Herglic Space originated in the Star Wars Legends continuity.

Herglic Space originated in the Star Wars Legends continuity, where it was first mentioned in the Player's Guide to Tapani, a 1997 supplement for Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game written by Paul Sudlow and Eric S. Trautmann and published by West End Games.[11] The sector was then depicted for the first time in the 2005 reference book The New Essential Chronology, which was written by Daniel Wallace.[12] Herglic Space's first full Legends appearance then occured during a flashback in Purge – Seconds to Die, a comic book written by John Ostrander, illustrated by Jim Hall, and published by Dark Horse Comics[13] on November 11, 2009.[14]

This assumes that the name "Giju Run," as used in Nexus of Power, applies to the canon hyperspace route depicted on the map that matches the depiction of the Star Wars Legends route with the same name in The Essential Atlas per BlueskyLogo Jason Fry (@jasoncfry.bsky.social.) on Bluesky (post on January 3, 2025): "They are indeed the same. Same galaxy, same map. In the rare event something needs to be changed, it will be discussed. (In response to: Hi @jasoncfry.bsky.social, was hoping you could confirm for Wookieepedia purposes that the hyperspace routes depicted on the Galaxy Map given out at Celebration are intended to be the same routes as in Legends. Sorry to bother, but would make our lives much easier to have it confirmed!)" (screenshot).
