"Giju sits at one end of a hyperspace lane known as Herglic Alley, which links the Rimma Trade Route to the Corellian Run."
―Strono Tuggs, The Ultimate Cookbook[4]

The Herglic Alley was a hyperspace route in the Colonies[1] and the Interior.[2] It connected[1] the planet[6] Giju[4] in the Giju system of Herglic Space[3] with the Byblos system. Giju acted as a junction between the route and both the Rimma Trade Route[1] and Giju Run,[5] while the Byblos system was also on the Corellian Run.[1] The linkage of the Rimma Trade Route and the Corellian Run resulted in Giju receiving a lot of visitors.[4] The route shared its name with the sentient Herglic species.[1]

By 10 BBY,[7] the pirate queen Maz Kanata marked the Herglic Alley on a map in the book known as the Smuggler's Guide. The map's key identified the route as one of the "real" trade routes for smugglers to use, as opposed to the official ones.[1] The chef Strono Tuggs also mentioned the route in the recipe for a beverage known as Giju Glug in his third cookbook, The Ultimate Cookbook, which was published[4] in 35 ABY.[8]

Behind the scenes

The Herglic Alley was first mentioned in Star Wars: Smuggler's Guide, a reference book written by Daniel Wallace and released in 2018.[1]

This assumes that the name "Giju Run," as used in Nexus of Power, applies to the canon hyperspace route depicted on the map that matches the depiction of the Star Wars Legends route with the same name in The Essential Atlas per BlueskyLogo Jason Fry (@jasoncfry.bsky.social.) on Bluesky (post on January 3, 2025): "They are indeed the same. Same galaxy, same map. In the rare event something needs to be changed, it will be discussed. (In response to: Hi @jasoncfry.bsky.social, was hoping you could confirm for Wookieepedia purposes that the hyperspace routes depicted on the Galaxy Map given out at Celebration are intended to be the same routes as in Legends. Sorry to bother, but would make our lives much easier to have it confirmed!)" (screenshot).

  7. The entry in Star Wars: Smuggler's Guide mentioning the Herglic Alley is placed chronologically prior to an entry written by the criminal Tobias Beckett. Star Wars: Timelines dates Beckett's death to 10 BBY, and so his entry in the guide and those chronologically before it must all be set prior to or during 10 BBY.
  8. Star Wars: The Ultimate Cookbook establishes that the publishing of the in-universe The Ultimate Cookbook and the culinary tour that preceded it occurred following the publishing of The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook and prior to the destruction of Kijimi. It also establishes that The Ultimate Cookbook was published following the Festival of the Ancestors that occurred during that time period. Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge: The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook further establishes that The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook was published concurrently with the First Order's search for the Resistance base on Batuu, which Star Wars: Timelines dates to 34 ABY. In addition, Timelines dates the Festival of the Ancestors and the destruction of Kijimi to 35 ABY, meaning the tour must have taken place between 34 ABY and 35 ABY and The Ultimate Cookbook must have been published in 35 ABY.
