- "Overheard your situation. We're headed to that sector. Pretty sure my crew and I can get you where you're going."
- ―Helion Volte, to Porter Engle and Barash Silvain
GT-22 was a GT astromech droid that was a member of the Galactic Republic Pathfinder team Outer Rim Expedition Eight-Zero-Seven. In 382 BBY, the team gave the Jedi Masters Porter Engle and Barash Silvain passage to the world Gansevor.
Biography
GT-22 was a GT astromech droid[1] that was a member of the Galactic Republic Pathfinder team Outer Rim Expedition Eight-Zero-Seven.[3] In 382 BBY,[4] GT-22 was with the rest of the team at the Office of the Frontier when the team's Jedi Master, Helion Volte, overheard[3] the Jedi Masters[5][6] Porter Engle and Barash Silvain speaking. The pair were trying to find passage to the world Gansevor, where they were needed to settle a dispute. Because the Pathfinders were headed to the same sector, Volte offered to take them there. During the journey, GT-22 witnessed a sparring match between Volte and Engle, in which the latter won.[3]
In 229 BBY,[7] the Vurk Jedi Master Harli Cogra wrote a book titled Chronicles of the Jedi, which detailed the Jedi of the High Republic Era. In the second chapter of the book, Cogra mentioned GT-22 and the other members of Outer Rim Expedition Eight-Zero-Seven.[8]
Characteristics
GT-22 had blue and white plating with orange stripes[1] and stood 1.17 meters (3 feet, 10 inches) tall.[2]
Behind the scenes
- "One of the reasons I chose them is because when we were concepting out Phase II, we spent a lot of time thinking about what an era of exploration would look like and what the teams would be. The Pathfinders, the communications teams, the EX droids—all of these elements were a huge part of the world-building."
- ―Charles Soule

GT-22 was first pictured at the Star Wars: The High Republic panel at Star Wars Celebration Anaheim on May 27, 2022.[10] The droid first appeared, albeit unidentified, in the first issue of the 2022 comic mini series Star Wars: The High Republic — The Blade. The issue was written by Charles Soule and published by Marvel Comics[3] on December 28, 2022[11] as part of The High Republic multimedia project's Phase II.[12] GT-22 was identified in the 2023 reference book Star Wars: The High Republic: Chronicles of the Jedi by Cole Horton.[8] GT-22 and other members of its team were originally designed as a generic Pathfinder squad and were then lifted for use in The Blade by Soule. Soule explained he had chosen the members of the team because he had spent a long time thinking about what the era of exploration in Phase II would look like and felt that the Pathfinders were important parts of the world-building.[9] Concept art of GT-22 was created by MinJi Yoon.[10]

- ↑ 2.0 2.1 Since the designation GT-11, as given in Star Wars: The High Republic Character Encyclopedia, uses the GT prefix, this article assumes GT-11 to be a GT astromech droid. Star Wars: The High Republic Character Encyclopedia also establishes that GT-11 is 1.17 meters (3 feet, 10 inches) tall. As both GT-11 and GT-22 are GT astromech droids, they must share this characteristic.

- ↑ Star Wars: The High Republic: Chronicles of the Jedi establishes that the in-universe book Chronicles of the Jedi was written weeks after the destruction of Starlight Beacon, which Star Wars: The High Republic Character Encyclopedia dates to 230 BBY. The issuing of the Guardian Protocols, dated by The High Republic Character Encyclopedia to 229 BBY, are depicted in The High Republic – Shadows of Starlight 1 as taking place one week after Starlight Beacon's destruction. With this, Chronicles of the Jedi must have been authored no earlier than 229 BBY. Chronicles of the Jedi further establishes that Pra-Tre Veter is still a Grand Master of the Jedi Order, meaning it was written before his death, which The High Republic Character Encyclopedia states took place in 229 BBY. Therefore, Chronicles of the Jedi must have been written in 229 BBY.
