Taking this straight to CT since it's a straight forward yes/no vote that came up in Discord. I'm proposing that we add the following bullet point to the bottom of the list in the Sentient species section of Wookieepedia:Notability policy: 

*For species in the current canon, a Star Wars Legends counterpart of matching visual appearance or description. Legends names for the species must still be used by a canon source before the name is considered canon.


This would allow for the creation of articles for Legends species that are introduced to canon but go unnamed and don't otherwise clearly meet the other notability criteria currently listed. The example that led to this discussion is the recent appearance of Unidentified amphibious sentient species in Ewoks (2024) 3, for which a canon page was created but then deleted for not being notable.

The reason I think we should have a page for this species and other similar instances is that if you looked at the Legends page for the species right now then there's no way to tell that it has also appeared in canon, which is useful information to readers and editors alike and something I often personally look for. The only way to find this information out currently is to go to the Orcon/Legends page and see that there's a canon version of that, which shouldn't be necessary to find out information relevant to the species itself. For other examples without a canon character like Titterbug and Mudgub, which recently appeared in Ewoks (2024) 4, there wouldn't be any indication at all.

The two places on the Legends article that this information could be presented are either via the canon tab, which is where readers usually look for it, or by adding something to the Behind the Scenes section. Since we generally avoid mentioning a subject's canon appearances in the BTS of Legends articles, exclusively doing this when the canon version doesn't meet notability would be inconsistent and likely confusing to readers and newer editors.

Having these kinds of articles also benefits editors, as when these species are most likely named in canon in future, we'll already have an existing list of the appearances in canon rather than relying on someone remembering that they appeared in a single comic panel years earlier. MTrac1000 has kindly already provided other examples like Blood Carver and Ensel that this would affect, which I would have had no way of knowing had appeared in canon were it not for his offsite list.
