Eleventh Brother

The Eleventh Brother was a Force-sensitive male individual who served the Galactic Empire as part of its Jedi-hunting Inquisitorius. Once a member of the Jedi Order, which fell in 19 BBY, he became the Eleventh Brother shortly after and was present at the Inquisitor's base Fortress Inquisitorius on the Outer Rim moon Nur where he met his Master, the Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Vader.

Between 18 BBY and 5 BBY, the Empire was informed about the presence of a Jedi at a farming village, and the Eleventh Brother was dispatched to investigate. The Inquisitor destroyed the village to lure out the Jedi, rounding up two survivors of the destruction, including the individual who had tipped the Empire off. Shortly after, the supposed Jedi, actually former Padawan Ahsoka Tano, returned to the village and prevented the Eleventh Brother from killing the informant with the Force. Upon his realization the individual was Tano, the Inquisitor went to strike her down, but the former Jedi evaded his attacks before taking his lightsaber and swiftly killing him.

Biography

Imperial Inquisitor

A Force-sensitive humanoid, the individual who would later be known as the Eleventh Brother was once a Jedi of the Jedi Order.^[2] In 19 BBY,^[6] the Jedi Order was eliminated^[7] and the individual was no longer a Jedi.^[2] That year,^[6] he^[3] was present in the partially constructed Fortress Inquisitorius^[5] on the Outer Rim moon Nur.^[7] Now the Eleventh Brother of the Galactic Empire's^[5] Jedi-hunting^[7] Inquisitorius, he accompanied the First Brother and Fourth Sister through a hallway flanked with Purge Troopers into the fortress's audience chamber after being welcomed in by the Grand Inquisitor,^[5] the leader of the Inquisitors.^[7]

Within the audience chamber, the group joined fellow Inquisitor Barriss Offee. At the Grand Inquisitor's command, the First Brother and Eleventh Brother took a knee, with the Fourth Sister and Offee following suit. The Grand Inquisitor then ushered in^[5] the Dark Lord of the Sith^[7] Darth Vader, the Inquisitors' new Master. After^[5] he^[7] took his throne, the Grand Inquisitor ordered those gathered to stand and declared "Long live the Empire."^[5]

Hunting a Jedi

Sometime between 18 BBY and 5 BBY,^[1] the Eleventh Brother was dispatched to a remote^[8] farming village^[8] on an astronomical object to investigate a tip from an informant about the presence of a Jedi there. He killed most of the inhabitants of the village and,^[7] in order to find the Jedi, burned the village;^[8] however, no Jedi came. Believing he had been lied to, the Eleventh Brother rounded up the survivors—the informant and an old man—and held them within the burning village.^[4]

The Eleventh Brother dragged his lightsaber through the dirt as he paced near the two hostages before raising it to the informant's neck. He then confronted the informant about his information, stating that while he had claimed a Jedi had been at the village, he had found there was none. In response, the boy promised the Inquisitor a Jedi would arrive back at the village, and added that he should be rewarded for turning her in. The Eleventh Brother then asked the informant if he expected to be rewarded by the Empire despite lying, to which^[4] former Padawan^[7] Ahsoka Tano, the supposed Jedi in question, made her presence known by affirming the boy's claim.^[4]

Facing Ahsoka Tano

Turning to face Tano as she strode toward him, the Eleventh Brother inquired as to who she was, but she simply told him to let the hostages go. The boy then called out that she was the Jedi he had reported, and reminded the Inquisitor of his earlier statement that she would return to the village, which the Eleventh Brother agreed with. Walking behind the informant, the Inquisitor told him he would have his reward and then raised his lightsaber to strike down the boy, but was thwarted by Tano's use of the Force.^[4] Immediately recognizing that it was Tano,^[9] the Eleventh Brother walked toward her while igniting the second blade of his weapon and told the former Padawan she was supposed to be dead.^[4]

As he drew closer to Tano, the Inquisitor noted that he would be the one rewarded after all, and then stated her name. The Inquisitor struck at Tano with both blades, but the former Jedi avoided each attack. On the fourth swing, Tano grabbed the lightsaber and deactivated it, before taking the lightsaber from his hands by kicking the Inquisitor's chest, separating the two. As the Eleventh Brother staggered back, she reactivated the saber and decapitated the Imperial. His helmet rolled back and deflated as his red eyes went dark and his body collapsed.^[4]

Personality and traits

The Eleventh Brother was a humanoid male^[2] with red eyes. The Inquisitor was ruthless, burning down an entire village and killing most of its inhabitants after receiving a tip that a Jedi was hiding among them.^[4] When he was unable to find the Jedi, he was frustrated^[9] and accused the informant of lying, threatening him with his lightsaber. After Tano revealed herself to him, he still planned to kill the informant. Upon realizing the supposed Jedi was Tano, he was^[4] eager to kill her,^[10] expecting a reward for himself.^[4]

Powers and abilities

As a former member of the Jedi Order, the Eleventh Brother was Force-sensitive and trained to wield the Force.^[2] He was also capable of wielding a lightsaber.^[4]

Equipment

The Eleventh Brother wore a black helmet^[11] with a white, demonic, bird-like mask.^[2] He wore a black cape with a silver clasp in the front. Both shoulders of the cape were adorned with a large Imperial crest. The Inquisitor wielded a double-bladed spinning lightsaber with red blades. He wore black clothes under his cape, with a black utility belt and black boots. The Eleventh Brother's black gloves featured imagery of bones along the fingers and talons at the tips.^[4]

The Eleventh Brother first appeared in "Resolve,"^[4] the sixth episode of Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi,^[3] the first installment of Tales, a Disney+ animated anthology series.^[13] He was voiced by Clancy Brown and credited as "Inquisitor" in the episode,^[4] which released on October 26, 2022.^[3] The Inquisitor was first previewed earlier in the year in a trailer shown at the Tales of the Jedi panel on May 28 at Celebration Anaheim^[14] before it was made publicly available on September 10, 2022.^[15] Concept art of the Eleventh Brother facing Ahsoka Tano before their duel was shown during the panel, as well.^[16]

Chris Madden,^[17] a concept designer for the episode,^[4] created concept art of the Inquisitor.^[17] A track on the series' soundtrack—which was composed by Kevin Kiner^[18] and released on October 26, 2022^[19]—was named "The Inquisitor."^[18] The Inquisitor's helmet was featured in the opening sequence of both Star Wars: Tales of the Empire^[20] and Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld episodes,^[21] the second and third installments of Tales, respectively.^[13] Tales of the Empire released May 4, 2024^[22] and Tales of the Underworld premiered May 2, 2025.^[23] The Eleventh Brother was featured on the poster celebrating the twentieth anniversary of Lucasfilm Animation,^[24] which was created by^[25] animator Gregory Verreault^[5] and given to attendees of the Lucasfilm Animation panel at Celebration Japan on April 18, 2025.^[26] A sketch of the Inquisitor from^[27] Tales of the Jedi's supervising director^[28] Dave Filoni's sketchbook was shared at an exhibit celebrating Lucasfilm Animation's twentieth anniversary at San Diego Comic-Con 2025. The exhibit was available from July 24 to July 27, 2025.^[27]

The reference book Star Wars Encyclopedia: The Comprehensive Guide to the Star Wars Galaxy^[7]—which was published on November 19, 2024^[29]—identified the Inquisitor as the "First Brother."^[7] However, two days later, the Inquisitor Marrok's entry on StarWars.com's Databank was updated to identify Marrok as the "First Brother."^[30] Lucasfilm Story Group member and maintainer of the Holocron continuity database^[31] Leland Chee confirmed the attribution of the title to the Eleventh Brother in the Encyclopedia was an error.^[12] The Inquisitor was finally identified as the "Eleventh Brother" in "Inquisitor Countdown," an article authored by Amy Richau in the 229th issue of the Star Wars Insider magazine,^[2] which was released on December 10, 2024.^[32]

Eleven is greater than six

The 2016 young-adult novel Ahsoka, which was written by E. K. Johnston, features Ahsoka Tano battling and killing an Inquisitor known as the Sixth Brother during an uprising on the Outer Rim moon Raada.^[34] After Johnston watched the Tales of the Jedi trailer, she assumed the Inquisitor—at that point not identified—was new and therefore not an adaption of the Sixth Brother,^[35] stating the individual he was seen threatening was not Kaeden Larte,^[36] a character from her Ahsoka novel.^[34] When a fan replied that the Inquisitor in the trailer seemed like the Sixth Brother, she replied that she appreciated their optimism.^[37]

When Johnston addressed the possibility of contradictions between her novel and Tales of the Jedi, she noted her frustration upon seeing fans declare her novel non-canon, stating that Dave Filoni had approved the novel years before and had since continued to work on her story.^[38] After the release of Tales of the Jedi, Filoni confirmed that the episode was based on the same outline provided for the Ahsoka novel, and that it was intended to be the same story.^[33] Both Star Wars Encyclopedia: The Comprehensive Guide to the Star Wars Galaxy and "Inquisitor Countdown" separate the two Inquisitors, though neither source states that the Sixth Brother was killed by Tano.^[2][7] This article assumes the events of Ahsoka and "Resolve" are separate.
