- "…blah, blah, sector 17: nothing remarkable, sector 18: nothing remarkable, sector 19: nothing—Hold up!"
- ―A Dug worker to themselves, while working on Republic Security Zone Monitoring Satellite 777B-Alpha
A Dug worked on the Galactic Republic's Republic Security Zone Monitoring Satellite 777B-Alpha during the High Republic Era. In 232 BBY, the Dug was on monitoring duties when an Emergence spurred by the Great Hyperspace Disaster occurred. They subsequently alerted the monitoring satellite's captain of the incoming hyperspace debris, prompting the latter to issue an evacuation order and report the situation to the Starlight Beacon space station.
Biography
- "Uh…captain?"
"Hm?"
"I think we need to—"
"Initiate the planetwide evacuation procedure! And alert the Starlight!"
"…And uh, get us out of here!" - ―The Dug and their captain, when hyperspace debris breached the Trymant system
A Dug lived during the High Republic Era and worked under a captain at Republic Security Zone Monitoring Satellite 777B-Alpha, a Galactic Republic monitoring satellite stationed in the Outer Rim Territories' Trymant system. As part of their work, they monitored areas of the system—such as sector 17, sector 18, and sector 19—via their workstation.[1]
The Dug and their captain were aboard Republic Security Zone Monitoring Satellite 777B-Alpha when Emergence debris entered the Trymant system.
In 232 BBY, the Great Hyperspace Disaster spurred Emergences—parts of hyperspace debris from the destroyed Legacy Run freighter—to start emerging from space and striking celestial bodies throughout the galaxy.[2] That day, the Dug was seated in front of several screens, panels, and radars in Republic Security Zone Monitoring Satellite 777B-Alpha. Bored, they spoke to themselves as they checked sectors in the Trymant system for unusual activity, listing each by name and indicating nothing interesting was occurring.[1]
The Dug then noticed Emergence debris heading toward the system's celestial bodies, calling out to their captain about the situation. The satellite's captain issued a planetwide evacuation procedure and alerted the Starlight Beacon space station. Afterward, the Dug commented that they should prepare to flee the monitoring station, staring at the debris coming out of hyperspace in shock.[1] Subsequently, many of Trymant IV's civilians were evacuated from the world by the Jedi aboard the Padawan Academic Cruiser Star Hopper, with the assistance of a Republic rescue fleet.[3] Ultimately, all of the planet Trymant IV's moons[4][5] were destroyed during the incident, while the world itself was shifted closer to the system's second sun, resulting in its aboveground water evaporating and its terrain turning to desert.[4]
Personality and traits
The Dug was bored by their duties when nothing of note was occurring in the sections they monitored, mumbling to themselves as they worked. They had grey skin, white hair, and yellow eyes.[1]
Equipment
While on the monitoring satellite, they wore a two-toned grey uniform with navy-colored gloves and blue-and-red beads in their hair.[1]
Behind the scenes
The Dug debuted in the first issue of the 2021 comic series Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures,[1] released as part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's Phase I. The issue was written by Daniel José Older, illustrated by Harvey Tolibao, and published by IDW Publishing on February 3, 2021.[6] On November 17, 2020, a StarWars.com article announcing the comic series included a preview containing uncolored pages from the first issue, which featured the Dug.[7]

STET mentions the destruction of several Trymant system moons. Other than Korbatal, is 'several moons' meant to refer the ones in the THRA prequel comic/are they all Trymant's moons, or planetoids instead?") defines the Trymant system celestial objects mentioned in "Tales of Villainy: The Gaze Electric" as Trymant IV's moons, which "STET!" specified were destroyed in the Trymant IV disaster dated to 232 BBY by Star Wars: Timelines.
