Plot summary

The War Isn't Over Yet

In the Anoat sector of the Outer Rim, Rebel Alliance B-wing starfighter pilot Rynn Zenat finds herself being swarmed by TIE strikers in the hours after the end of the Battle of Endor. She calls for backup and to her squadron mate and partner, Preeti Delmin, certain her death is imminent. She makes an explosive sacrifice hoping to save her love, taking out many of the TIE strikers along with her own ship and, very likely, her life.

Aftermath

On the forest moon of Endor, Leia Organa sees her husband Han Solo off as he embarks on a mission against the Empire. Meanwhile, on the Imperial Star Destroyer Scepter, in the Anoat sector, Commander Bragh discusses the aftermath of a skirmish with Rebel starfighters with Grand Moff Ubrik Adelhard. They are approached by Imperial Security Bureau Lieutenant Kith Alaytia, who asks them not to destroy the Rebel ships so that she can conduct an interrogation. Adelhard ignores her concerns and destroys the Rebels. She reminds the Moff that they need information following the recent battle at Endor. Adelhard does not let her mention the deaths of Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader. Bragh doubles down, reminding Alaytia that the Empire lives on indefinitely, as they will ensure it continues. Adelhard is nevertheless optimistic that he can maintain control of the sector and, eventually, the rest of the galaxy. He calls for Reyna Oskure, an individual who may be of some use to him.

Before Han's departure, at the victory celebration following the Battle of Endor, Leia slips away during the festivities. For her, the feeling of victory is tinged with the sharp and bitter taste of regret and potent anger. She approaches the pyre of Darth Vader, and says goodbye to her biological father. She cannot forgive him for his evil acts, only feels anger for all the people he hurt and left behind. She tosses his charred helmet aside and joins her chosen family.

Machinations

In an Acolytes of the Beyond stronghold on Devaron, Reyna Oskure speaks with Yupe Tashu, annoyed by the man's needlessly esoteric verbosity. Tashu asks Oskure to help the Acolytes squash the nascent New Republic. She is open to doing so, and informs Tashu she has been contacted by Adelhard. Tashu is pleased by this, and asks her to take good care of the Grand Moff, as Tashu has plans for him. Oskure leaves with a warning about the cyclical nature of institutions and governments.

Back on Endor, Luke Skywalker approaches his sister Leia, hoping to talk with her about her visiting their father's pyre. He sensed her anger through the Force and worries that she may become driven by darkness. Leia rebuts, avowing that she is not like their father, that she is a person with feelings that cannot be buried, with trauma that has left scars. Luke then offers to train Leia in the ways of the Jedi. Before Leia can consider the offer, they are approached by a Rebel lieutenant who informs them that a badly damaged Rebel ship has arrived to their location demanding to speak with Leia.

On the Scepter, Kith Alaytia is approached by Commander Bragh, who asks about the news she supposedly has for him and Adelhard. She starts to explain, and Bragh realizes its importance and takes her directly to Adelhard. The Grand Moff reminds his two pillars of order and reason about their sacred duty to restore the Empire and harshly cuts off Alaytia as she begins to relay the news, asking her to be more to the point. She informs him that one of the Rebel B-wing pilots survived the attack.

The pilot who survived the attack is Rynn Zenat. She inexplicably made it all the way to Endor, unsure of how she survived or how she got to Endor. She starts to tell her story to Leia, how she thought the war was over, but how things quickly changed when she engaged Adelhard's forces. She warns them all of Adelhard's ruthlessness and his goals to restore the Empire.
