"Trust me, you'll get used to it. Until then, do what I do and shove it down beneath your other concerns, worries, and this-is-going-to-get-me-killed fears, and you'll do just fine. Better alive and inconsequential beneath the Supremacy's gaze than dead and on solid ground."
―FL-4980, to TZ-1719[2]

FL-4980 was a stormtrooper of the First Order who was stationed aboard the warship Supremacy at some point between 27 ABY and 28 ABY. Aboard the starship, they met the newly arrived trooper TZ-1719 and gave her some helpful advice. However, once they learned TZ-1719 was part of Company 77, FL-4980 warned her of the company's reputation for bloodthirst. Later, FL-4980 themself was part of the company during a mission to the planet Epo. There, the trooper followed TZ-1719 and the rest of the company in refusing to carry out an order to execute a group of captured smugglers, with the stormtroopers laying down their weapons and ultimately deserting the First Order.

FL-4980[2] was a human[1] squad leader in the Stormtrooper Corps of the First Order in service[2] at some point between 27 ABY and 28 ABY,[3] For a time they were based out of the Supremacy,[2] a vast warship that served as the mobile capital of the First Order,[4] becoming able to recognize stormtroopers that were newly arrived aboard the starship. At one point, they were waiting in a line with other troopers to board a magnetic troop transport tram heading to the ship's staging area when they noticed the similarly recently-arrived trooper TZ-1719 taking in the large dimensions of the Supremacy's interior. Addressing the other squad leader, FL-4980 advised her to not pay too much attention to it. They also briefly informed TZ-1719 of the nature of the staging area before bluntly cutting off the trooper FL-8007 when he brought up the topic of executions of First Order personnel.[2]

When the stormtroopers arrived at the staging area, FL-4980 noticed that TZ-1719's squad was part of Company 77, which had a reputation of being bloodthirsty and volunteering for the duty of executing other troopers. TZ-1719, wishing to thank the other trooper for their help, noticed their reaction of intense dislike. When the perplexed TZ-1719 revealed that the company had shipped in from Locke Station, FL-4980 eventually relayed that one of the First Order morale reports broadcast to stormtroopers had claimed that a squad leader of Company 77 aboard that space station had killed a pirate and then used their body as a lure to kill other pirates—with TZ-1719 in actuality being said squad leader and the claim being false. After a brief moment during which TZ-1719 thought FL-4980 was studying her and before the latter departed to join their own formation, they gave a warning to TZ-1719 about her company's reputation.[2]

Joining in refusal

"COMPANY. About face!"

Not long thereafter, FL-4980 themself was transferred to Company 77 for an operation on Ansett Island of the planet Epo[2] of the Outer Rim Territories' Ciutric sector.[5] During the mission, the company's Captain Shikra ordered the execution of a group of captured smugglers who were transporting infants orphaned by a previous massacre carried out on Shikra's orders.[2]

Affected by the captain's violent actions and attitude, TZ-1719 and her squad refused to carry out the order and laid down their weapons. The company's Sergeant Teena Calcon followed suit, with FL-8007 and then FL-4980 doing the same, after which the entire company likewise carried out the act of insubordination. Ultimately, the company went on to desert the First Order and, under TZ-1719 and Cancon's leadership, leave Epo aboard the commandeered light cruiser Culverin.[2]

Personality and traits

"Stuff it, Knives. Ignore him. He's going to find himself on the wrong end of a laser ax if he doesn't shut up."
―FL-4980, to TZ-1719[2]

FL-4980 was respected by their fellow stormtroopers. They espoused the belief that a First Order stormtrooper should concentrate on survival and other concerns more pressing than contemplating the large size of the Supremacy, and they were willing to provide helpful advice to newly arrived troopers on the warship. They also disapproved of the casualness with which their fellow trooper FL-8007 brought up in a conversation the topic of stormtrooper executions, expressing their belief that FL-8007 was thus endangering himself.[2]

In addition, FL-4980 harbored a deep dislike for Company 77's reputation for being casual and even eager about killing others, to the point where, upon learning that TZ-1719 was part of the company, they adopted a stiff posture and held their hands at their sides while clenched into fists. Later, after they had themself been transferred to the company, FL-4980—like TZ-1719 and the rest of the company's troopers—were motivated by Captain Shikra's open disregard for life to refuse an order to kill a group of captured smugglers, which ultimately led to their and the company's desertion from the First Order.[2]

Equipment

FL-4980 donned First Order stormtrooper armor with a white squad leader pauldron and wielded an F-11D blaster rifle.[2]

Behind the scenes

FL-4980 appeared in flashbacks in Kwame Mbalia's 2025 young-adult novel The Last Order.[2]
