An expedition to Gloam was undertaken by Republic Pathfinder Outer Rim Expedition Two-Five-Two[1] in 382 BBY.[2] The team had been sent to Gloam's twin planet, Aubadas, in response to a request by the planet's native Katikoot for assistance in finding a sustainable energy source, as diplomatic teams were momentarily unavailable due to the ongoing Eiram and E'ronoh War. As the Katikoot were on the verge of an energy crisis, Jedi Master Rok Buran, the Pathfinder team's leader, decided to investigate Gloam's mines to see if they could be temporarily restarted to tide the Katikoot over before a Galactic Republic engineering team could arrive. The mines had been abandoned due to rumors of legendary monsters which inhabited Gloam, and Buran wanted to see whether or not the monsters were real. A Katikoot guide, Rillik, accompanied the team. However, Rillik, sick with the miner's curse and driven by a desire for wealth, betrayed the Pathfinders, having released the monsters in the first place. He tricked them into entering an ancient city where the monsters roamed loose, before backtracking, destroying the Pathfinders' starship Foundling, and returning to Aubadas in a prepared mining ship with a tale of an attack. Buran, initially left for dead, was the only member of his team to survive.[1]
