"A gem among the smaller capital ships. Who still uses these?"
"Dornea, my dear Statura. Dornea uses them."
―Ushos O. Statura and Admiral Gial Ackbar, in annotations of The Rebel Files[5]

Dornea, located in the Outer Rim Territories' Lothal sector, was the homeworld of the Dorneans, who designed the Braha'tok-class gunships to protest their homeworld against the Empire. Some of the gunships saw further action in a growing rebellion against the Empire, especially after Dornea joined the officialized Rebel Alliance. Dornea continued to use the Braha'tok-class gunships through 34 ABY.

Description

Dornea was an astronomical object[3] located in the Lothal sector's Dornea system within an intersecting portion of the Outer Rim Territories[1] and the Slice regions.[2] It was situated at the coordinates U-7 on the Standard Galactic Grid.[1]

The Braha'tok-class gunship was designed to protect Dornea

During the reign of the Galactic Empire, Dornea's native Dorneans[3] designed the Braha'tok-class gunship,[4] which were manufactured by the Dornean Braha'ket Fleetworks Conglomerate to protect Dornea from the Empire[3] and patrol the Dornea system. Following a Dornean treaty,[6] some of these gunships saw service with a growing rebellion against the Empire[5] by around 4 BBY.[7] The rebellion became officialized the Rebel Alliance in 2 BBY,[8] and after the Alliance secured a decisive victory at the Battle of Yavin[4] in 0 BBY,[8] Dornea joined their cause and brought more Braha'tok-class gunships with them.[4]

The gunships continued to protect the Dornean homeworld after the fall of the Empire.[3] In 34 ABY,[9] the archive of non-electronic documents known as the The Rebel Files were uncovered during an excavation on the planet Durkteel and eventually reached the Resistance, a private military with roots to the Rebel Alliance. Resistance Admiral Ushos O. Statura questioned wrote a note in a section on the Braha'tok-class gunship, questioning who still used them. Resistance Admiral Gial Ackbar left a note reply that Dornea still used the vessels.[5]

Behind the scenes

Dornea was introduced into the current canon when it was mentioned in the 2017 boxset and reference book Star Wars: The Rebel Files, written by Daniel Wallace.[5] In Star Wars Legends continuity, Dornea was first mentioned in the 1996 novel Before the Storm, written by Michael P. Kube-McDowell.[10]
