- "Ghorman is a single product economy. We import almost everything we need to survive. The blockade didn't have to go very long to remind us how vulnerable we are."
- ―Dasi Oran to Mon Mothma
In an incident related to the alledged death of a naval inspector in[1] 5 BBY,[5] the Galactic Empire blockaded shipping lanes to the Ghorman system on orders from the Imperial Ruling Council, including council members Ars Dangor and Sly Moore.[3] While the supposed death came after months of Ghormans refusing to comply with the Imperial Navy's inspections, in reality, the death of a naval inspector was arranged by Ministry of Enlightenment employees Dee Shambo and Nisus Osar as part of an Anti-Ghorman whispering campaign while plans were forming for the removal of the Ghorman people from Ghorman to allow Imperial mining of the rare mineral kalkite there.[1] In the end, the blockade was lifted on the order of the Imperial Senate once Senator Mon Mothma rallied enough support for the Ghormans.[2]
The blockade was a learning moment for the Ghorman people, who were faced with the reality that—as a single product economy whose export was Ghorman twill—they imported the essentials of survival. Therefore, Ghormans, such as Senator Dasi Oran, were left with the fear that another such blockade or similar Imperial crackdown could spell doom for their people. Alternatively, other anti-Imperial Ghormans, such as those among the Ghorman Front, were not dissuaded.[2]
