- "Captain? Captain Silvo, i-is that you?"
"Benjar Pranic, you old blood."
"Brutus let you out, did he? Here, come sit with your old crewman. Have some tea and tell me your troubles." - ―Benjar Pranic and Silvo
Benjar Pranic was an Ishi Tib pirate that served in the crew of Captain Silvo during the New Republic Era and then Captain Brutus following a mutiny against Silvo around 9 ABY. Pranic was surprised to run into Silvo in a droid repair shop on the asteroid Port Borgo when the former captain was due to soon face trial but greeted Silvo and offered to chat over tea. The former captain refused, explaining he was leaving to find a new treasure and asking the Ishi Tib not to tell anyone about their meeting. However, Pranic sounded the alarm without hesitation, although Silvo then successfully escaped.
Biography
- "Now, why is it he decided to let you loose right before your trial?"
"I let myself loose. I just might have finally found the big score I always talked of."
"Oh, that's interesting. Wouldn't have nothing to do with those children what showed up, eh, pockets full of sparkling dataries." - ―Benjar Pranic and Silvo
Benjar Pranic served under the pirate Captain Silvo until he was deposed in a mutiny.
Benjar Pranic was an Ishi Tib male who served as a pirate in the crew of Captain Silvo until the Shistavanen pirate Brutus mutinied against Silvo and imprisoned him in the brig of the asteroid Port Borgo during the era of the New Republic[1] around 9 ABY.[3] He[2] remained in the crew under Brutus on the asteroid, where the crew also captured four children carrying Old Republic dataries in the brig. Shortly after the children were captured, the Ishi Tib was surprised to find Silvo while dropping off a droid leg in[1] a droid repair shop[4] in the port not long before the former captain was to be put on trial by Brutus.[1]
The Ishi Tib called out to the captain as he was loading the droid SM-33 onto a[1] hovercart,[4] causing the former captain to pull out a blaster pistol before he realised it was Pranic. Instead of attacking, Silvo greeted Pranic, who suggested the former captain sit down and share his troubles over a cup of tea. Silvo refused, revealing that he had to borrow the droid and leave in order to track down a large score.[1]
Despite his opinion of the captain, Pranic felt his escape should be reported.
Pranic complemented the former captain and surmised that Silvo's new scheme likely related to the captured children, which Silvo did not confirm, asking that his former crewmate not mention their run-in to anyone as he prepared to leave the shop. Pouring a cup of tea and standing, Pranic pointed out that Silvo's escape should be reported to Brutus, suggesting they call the guards in for a chat.[1] He then did not hesitate to sound the alarm.[2] Despite pirate pursuit, Silvo nonetheless managed to escape from Port Borgo with the children.[1]
Personality and traits
- "Oh, I have to shove off. I'm borrowing this droid."
"Ah. Always a fire in your belly and a mad scheme in your heart. [chuckles] Eh, Brutus ain't half the captain you were. You're the best skipper I ever had." - ―Silvo and Benjar Pranic
By the time Pranic found Silvo in the repair shop, the green-skinned Ishi Tib was considered old[1] and walked with a cane.[4] He had respect for Silvo's mad schemes and was able to divine the entirety of the former captain's plan when he encountered him with SM-33 and admired it.[2] The Ishi Tib told Silvo that he was the best captain they had served under and twice the leader Brutus was, admiring his courage and wild schemes. However, the Ishi Tib did not agree to let Silvo escape without telling anyone[1] and did not hestiate in alerting Brutus's men.[2]
Equipment
During the meeting with Silvo, Pranic wore a brown padded longcoat over a gray shirt and pants with brown boots and a gray harness. He used a B1-series battle droid leg as a walking cane.[1]
Behind the scenes
Benjar Pranic was voiced by Alfred Molina and portrayed by performance artist Alexander Ward in "Very Interesting, As an Astrogation Problem,"[1] the third episode of the Disney+ live-action series Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, which aired on December 10, 2024.[5] The character was named by one of the show's writers in reference to Benjamin Ahr Harrison and Adam Pranica, the co-hosts of "The Greatest Generation" Star Trek-themed podcast. Pranica's line "You're the best skipper I ever had." also closely resembles the phrase "Best boss I ever had." which is the response given by fans of the podcast to the question "Are you a friend of DeSoto?" as a way of recognizing fellow fans.[6]

- ↑ Star Wars: Timelines dates the events of "Chapter 1: The Mandalorian" of The Mandalorian Season One to 9 ABY. In addition,
"A Certain Point of View" — Star Wars Insider 228 also dates "Part Seven: Dreams and Madness" to nine years after the events of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, which corresponds to 9 ABY per Timelines. "Part Seven: Dreams and Madness" takes place after the conflict on Mandalore, which is the main event depicted in "Chapter 23: The Spies" and "Chapter 24: The Return," the final two episodes of The Mandalorian Season Three. Therefore, Seasons One through Three of Star Wars: The Mandalorian must all be set in 9 ABY as well.
SWCA 2022: 20 Highlights from Lucasfilm's Studio Showcase on StarWars.com (backup link) states that Star Wars: Skeleton Crew takes place in the same timeframe as Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Star Wars: Ahsoka—the latter of which can also be dated to 9 ABY following the reasoning here. As such, Skeleton Crew must take place around 9 ABY as well.
