During the Galactic War between the Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire, a battle occurred in the asteroid field in the Bimmiel system when a Republic fleet set up a minefield in order to divide Imperial forces in the Kanz sector. The Empire's Fury squadron was then sent by Imperial Fleet Command to destroy both the minefield and Republic forces in the area.

The battle

Using the asteroids above Bimmiel for cover, the Empire's Fury squadron eliminated one of the defending Thranta-class corvettes early on, before whitling down the pursuing enemy starfighters and destroying minefield clusters along the way. The slower ML-39 Brute Patrol Ship, which served the Republic as its primary minelayer, was destroyed next. On the other side of the minefield another Republic frigate awaited the Empire's Fury squadron but was crippled and destroyed like its sistership had been earlier. Lastly, when Republic opposition had dwindled, the Empire's Fury targeted the central control satellite, destroying it and completing its mission before jumping to hyperspace.

Behind the scenes

The battle appears as the Kanz Minefield space mission in Star Wars: The Old Republic.
