During the Galactic War between the Galactic Republic and the reconstituted Sith Empire, a battle occurred above the planet Hypori when Imperial forces attacked the prototype "Gilded Meteor" bomber on its maiden voyage. Republic forces successfully defended the bomber with the aid of the Coruscant Aegis squadron.[4]
The battle
Escorted by a pair of Thranta-class corvettes, the Gilded Meteor was on its maiden voyage when the group of republic ships was ambushed by a trio of Terminus-class destroyers. The Coruscant Aegis arrived moments later, strafing and heavily damaging the Imperial destroyers whilst protecting the prototype bomber. The Empire subsequently arrived in full force when a Harrower-class dreadnought, escorted by two additional destroyers, joined the battle. Despite their superior numbers, the Imperial forces were unable to destroy the Gilded Meteor before it escaped to hyperspace. Republic reinforcements consisting of two more Thranta corvettes flanked the Imperial fleet and, together with the Coruscant Aegis, inflicted heavy damage. Despite destroying at least four destroyers and the majority of the Imperial fighters as well as all three Fury-class Imperial interceptors, the Republic fleet opted for a safe retreat, jumping to hyperspace before taking heavy losses themselves.
