During the Galactic War between the Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire, a battle occurred above the planet Lorta when Republic forces attacked the D-1Z prototype bomber on its maiden voyage. Imperial forces successfully defended the bomber.[4]

The battle

Escorted by a pair of Terminus-class destroyers, the D-1Z prototype bomber was on its maiden voyage above Lorta when the group of Imperial ships was ambushed by a trio of Thranta-class corvettes. The Empire's Fury arrived moments later, strafing and heavily damaging the Republic frigates whilst protecting the bomber. The Republic subsequently arrived in full force when a Valor-class cruiser, escorted by two additional Thranta frigates, joined the battle. Despite their superior numbers, the Republic forces were unable to destroy the prototype bomber before it escaped to hyperspace. Imperial reinforcements consisting of two more Terminus destroyers flanked the Republic fleet and, together with the Empire's Fury squadron, inflicted heavy damage. Despite destroying at least four frigates and the majority of the Republic fighters as well as all three Defender-class light corvettes, the Imperial fleet opted for a safe retreat, jumping to hyperspace before taking heavy losses themselves.
