- "Seriously, Gedeek? You're the last person I expected to work with the rebels."
"Good thing he does, otherwise you'd be dead. The viper droids are getting more aggressive. We need to launch our assault." - ―Kay Vess and a Typhoon Sqaudron commander
The Attack on the Kassina Outpost was an assault performed by the Alliance to Restore the Republic and Kay Vess' crew on the planet of Akiva, within the Galactic Empire's facility of Kassina Outpost. The operation was conducted with the aim of removing the Empire's data on the Alpha Droid model of the Viper probe droid, as well as reprogramming the model to aid the Akivan Rebels.
Prelude
- "I agreed to help clean up your mess, not get in the middle of someone else's war."
"This is everyone's war."
"Listen, forget the rebels, Kay. A lot of people are going to get hurt because of what I did. You want a droidsmith? This is the deal." - ―Kay Vess, a Typhoon Squadron commander, and Gedeek Obaz
The Rodian engineer Gedeek Obaz, after joining the Galactic Empire as a choice over imprisonment, developed the advanced Viper Probe Droid model of the Alpha Droid to prove his value. However, the Alpha Droid resulted to be uncontrollably scattered throughout Akiva, causing large casualties among the local syndicates and civilians. By 3 ABY,[2] the crime lord Jaylen Vrax began collecting crewmembers across the galaxy as part of his campaign to control the Zerek Besh syndicate, where the outlaw Kay Vess suggested to hire Gedeek Obaz as the droidsmith for the crew.[1]
Though rescued by Kay Vess from his imprisonment within the Imperial facility on Akiva, Obaz insisted Vess to help him in destroying the schematics of his Alpha Droids belonging to the Empire. Obaz would make contact with the Typhoon Squadron of the Alliance to Restore the Republic, who agreed to help with the assault on the Kassina Outpost to eradicate the threat of the Alpha Droids to their local operations. Despite Vess being reluctant to work with Rebels for her previous experience of earning a Death Mark, Obaz convinced Vess that it is to help the innocent Akivans and is necessary for his recruitment.[1]
The battle
- "Typhoon Squadron? We're here."
"Copy that. We'll punch open an exit. Just get us that droid." - ―Gedeek Obaz and a Typhoon Squadron commander
While the Rebels of Typhoon Squadron move into position near the hangar of the Kassina Outpost, Vess and her Merqaal partner-in-crime, Nix, has been sent to infiltrate the base and disable the defense grid protecting the outpost. After entering through a pipline below the base and navigating through the facility, Vess would eventually find herself in a section identified by Obaz to be operated by the Imperial Security Bureau. Vess would then arrive at the Listening post, which contains the system for the defense grid. Successfully disabling the grid, Vess later made her way inside the maintenance area to meet with Obaz, who used his credentials to infiltrate the base. There, the Rodian suggested to reprogram the Viper Droids with his tool known as the Freedom Spike, which would allow the droids to support the Rebel Alliance instead of merely being destroyed.[1]
The trio then proceeded towards the droid lab, where Vess neutralized the Imperial affiliates within to secure the room for Obaz. As the energy barrier containing a Viper Droid within the lab is disabled, Typhoon Squadron began their attack on the base to establish an exit for the crew. The Imperial forces soon launched a counterattack against both the rebels and the lab. While Vess attempts to hold off against the Imperial onslaught, she contacted the BX-series droid commando crewmember ND-5 to assist in the battle, who was able to locate the outpost and join the crew in securing the base. Though ND-5 received damage from his skirmish against several stormtroopers and at least one death trooper, he dismissed the crew to proceed with the operation.[1]
As the Viper Droid has been reprogrammed, Typhoon Squadron requested to the crew for immediate support, being immensely overwhelmed by the Imperial forces within the facility. ND-5 suggests to guard Obaz in wiping Imperial Data while Vess escorts the Viper Droids in assisting the Rebels. As Vess and the Viper Droid moves towards the hangar, other Viper Droids within the outpost has also been converted by the reprogrammed model. The army of Viper Droids then arrived with Vess and Nix inside the hangar, where the Rebel forces briefly secured the area with the aid of the Viper Droids. Obaz and ND-5 would later arrive at the hangar to assure every Imperial data in the facility to be fully wiped. As the Rebels retreats from the facility with the Viper Droids, Kay Vess and her crew would return to their ship, the Trailblazer, to enter orbit and escape Imperial pursuit in space.[1]
Aftermath
- Gedeek Obaz: "Wiped everything I could find. They won't be using my plans again."
- Rebel commander: "You sure you won't stay?"
- Obaz: "Uhh, our fight is somewhere else."
- Kay Vess: "Yeah, in a rich guy's mansion."
- ―Gedeek Obaz, a Typhoon Squadron commander, and Kay Vess[1]
With their objectives completed, the Rebel forces and Kay Vess' crew were successful in escaping from the Galactic Empire, the Alpha Droid model and any related data no longer tangible by the Empire. Instead, the probe droid model has been made to support the local Rebels in their future operations. Nevertheless, the Empire would resecure the base following the retreat of the attacking forces. As the Viper Droids are no longer considered a threat to local Akivans and syndicates, Gedeek Obaz has been hired as the droidsmith for Kay Vess' crew, where they would then continue in pursuing Jaylen Vrax's campaign.[1]
