Gedeek Obaz, also known as The Toymaker, was a male Rodian droidsmith who was raised in Canto Bight's Worker's District. A former Imperial Engineer, he designed an Alpha Droid variant of the Viper Probe Droid. However, he eventually regretted his decision and defected to the Rebel Alliance, before joining his former friend Kay Vess' crew.
Biography
Gedeek was born to his parents in 20 BBY and raised in the planet Canto Bight's Worker's District. He began his criminal career by modifying MSE series droids to steal for him. As a teenager, he became friends with the thief Kay Vess. However, when a casino scam by the pair alerted the attention of the Canto Bight Police Department, Vess abandoned the Rodian to the police. Obaz was faced with arrest or joining the Galactic Empire. He made the decision to join the Empire and left Canto Bight after seeing his parents for the last time.[1]
By 3 ABY, Obaz had been taken into employment by the Imperial Corps of Engineers on Akiva. While on the planet, he was involved in assembling droids for underground cage fights, and received payment from both the Pyke Syndicate and the Hutt Cartel for his services. He also assembled custom droids for children, under the secret identity "The Toymaker". During his service to the Empire, Gedeek felt he had to prove himself to his colleagues, due to his lack of a Core World education. As a result, he designed the Alpha Droid, a new, faster, and smarter variant of a Viper Probe Droid. He eventually regretted creating the droid and covertly defected to the Rebel group on the planet.[1]
When his former friend, Kay Vess, arrived on Akiva to recruit him for a mission, Gedeek enlisted her to help him infiltrate Kassina Outpost, reprogram the Alpha Droid, and hand it over to the rebellion. Afterwards, he joined Kay Vess' crew, eventually forgiving her for abandoning him in the past.[1]
